Theora component

If i use theora component to play video without sound, it plays OK, but with sound track, playback is very slow and choppy. Does anyone know why ?

No sound: things work.
With sound: visual distortions, laggyness, and a high chance of crash.
I've been unable to figure out the correct audio format to use prior to encoding into theora. I had one video with sound that worked perfectly every time but it was made in theora to begin with (or at least I've never had it's original form). When it comes to converting an existing video clip with audio into a theora file... I can't seem to figure it out.
If anyone's got any tips, I'd love to know.
