Game slows when audio is on menu

Hi all,
I have an .ogg file which plays when my game loads up my main menu, on my laptop it is fine. The laptop is a HP NX9420 core 2 duo @1.8GHZ.
When I get back to college and copy the same game over to my Alienware desktop with a creative labs SB-XFI sound card the loading screen crawls. when I move the mouse it jerks all over the place.
If i remove the audio it is fine.
I have the open AL sdk on both machines.
anyone have a similar problem with this ?
Robert.

If there are any details I can send you let me know. Im kinda stuck developing on my laptop at the moment as this does not work on the alienware machines at the college. I think the lecturers are ok with me using the laptop for the moment, the deliverable has to be in Wednesday :)

I'm thinking it has something to do with the codec and or directX/Sound card drivers.

While I do not experience the slowdown with the OGG files, my friend and fellow classmates are experiencing the same issue. If they rename the OGG file or if they switch to use WAV (60MB versus 2 MB) then everything is fine.I'm thinking it has something to do with the codec and or directX/Sound card drivers.

I have also had this problem, I had an audio.ogg and a video.ogg running on my main menu. Exactly the same error occured. On some PCs it's fine, on others the screen runs at about 1 frame per second. We've also had sound working on some PCs and not others etc. It's really annoying and we don't know why as yet....I've deleted the video.ogg for now which seems to have done the trick, but obviously this isn't a perfect solution as the screen was designed to have the video in there. If we find a solution I'll let you know.
