Stick Figure FPS. Just hear me out... :)

Seriously, this could be the perfect torque game. It takes NO artistic skill at all, and could be completed by one guy in a matter of months.

The basic premise is this. You play a stick figure who joins the stick figure rebellion (SFR). The goal of teh SFR is to free all stick people from their slavery. They dont want stick people being used on street signs, or hung in games of hangman, etc.

So, there is a short single player aspect of the game, where you play along with the story. The basic gameplay would be quite innovative. Lead would server as both health and ammo (its what makes up stick figures and any weapons they might have). Ink could be used as armor and rarer ammo. This would force people to balance offense and defense, and the fights would center around the pools/stashes of ink and lead.

Some examples of weapons would be the ever-deadly eraser, the inkblot, the standard drawn in bullets, the deadly line (railgun), and some kind of explosive weapon, like a rocket launcher. Each would use a different amount of ammo per shot, and have different uses. For example, the standard bullets would rarely hit the enemy, since it is hard to hit a line (they have very thin limbs). The gun would have a high firing rate to make up for the lack of area affect damage. There could even be a mr. smiley gun, that makes the opponent's head become a smiley face, and grow larger (easier to hit).

You could also have special abilities, like drawing in a an anvil over an enemy and having it crush him, or drawing decoys of yourself, all activities which consume lead and ink.

What do you guys think? There is some serious potential for humor here, and the gameplay, if done correctly, could be quite fun. :)

For names, here some starting thoughts:

Paper Cut
Pen
Mighty Pen
Pencil
Pencil Wars
Eraser
Eraser Head
Stick
Stick Men
Stick Men Revolution
Figure
Go Figure

Also I think it might be a bit ambitious to have
both 1st person and multiplayer elements. Multiplayer
only would be easier but 1st person allows for more of
what i think is fun about this idea: even simple fraggin is fun cause of this quirky little world and its humor.

I like Stick Men Revolution. Or something with Stick Men. Maybe, Stick Men : Paper Cut.

The site is being developed still, but heres something I added. http://home.warfactory.com/stickfigure/
The free site that hosts that page is pretty confusing. I use geocities, or homestead. We'll get it going though =)

Pencil Whipped was just a greyscale Doom.

That was a shocker when it made it as a finalist into the IGF last year. Hand drawn sprites in a 3d world, but no real focus or play off of the fact that they were 2d, or any explanation to tie it into the game. Just "uh, I'm not using models. I'm using sprites".

At least *this* idea is unique.

"Heavy Lead"
"Full Leaded Jacket"
"Eraser" or "Erased"
"Sticks and Stones"
"Strictly Stickly"
"Stickman, Ink."
"Ink Stickman"
"James Stickman: #002 Lead"
"The Stick and the Dead"
"Stick It"
"Toon Wars: Stickman's Revenge"
Or the one I suggested to Josh: "Stickemon" ;)

Some stick sayings:"Get the lead out!", "I'm not simple--I'm just drawn that way", "Where'd you learn to draw? At the art institute for shmucks?!"

After a small bit of thought I've come up with a whole one possible name...

Stick Figure Revolution: The Chiaroscuro Project

I like the idea of having some catch phrases in the game! A few others could be

"There ain't no gray areas here!"
"Hey, I'm a stickler for business."
"The name's Figure...Stick Figure."
"I'm gonna ruuuubbb ya out!"
"Go! Go! Speed Race..." Erm...wait...nevermind

Keep the ideas comin' guys!

I like the puns. They are so fitting for this kind of a game. Of course, the humor has to rely on more than just puns, but those are nice one-liners. :)

Some of you thought about first player, and multiplayer. I was thinkin where you'd put a stick figure game's location at. A lot of times you hear people talk about, "That would never happen." I thought maybe if you do something crazy for this game, as well as the commedy in it. You guys are on the track of erasers, pencils and stuff. What if this world that the stick figure's live in, is actually a piece of paper. You picture this table with a lamp, coffee cup, pencil and paper. When you zoom in the on paper more and more theres a world with stick figure people on it. If you've seen How the gringe stole christmas, with the "Whos" down in who-ville. Who-ville is actually on a snow-flake. When you do that, you basically got to recieve the answer, neat concept. And you could have little creases on the paper, which to the stick figures would look like huge mountains. Then you could just make big white mountains. Maybe some ink was spilled on the paper, which created buildings that they live in. Maybe it sounds really stupid. But if you do that you can do alot of crazy things, since the concept is so far-fetched. What do you think?

There is a game called Stick Soldiers that I found out about on GameDev forums. It is a side scroller, and it pretty well done.

This is a good idea though.

well the idea sounds nice but ink for weapons and liveing on a pice of paper not cool. i say just addlittle stick tanks in the mix to. so you get a game like team buddies for playstation.

Stick tanks? Sounds alittle like "Army Men : Sarges Heros." Don't see how these little guys could get a hold of units like that. I acutally didn't think my paper idea was bad. Except the ink would be the water, wouldn't it.
