Maya 8.5 exporter?

by Kip Carr · in Artist Corner · 01/16/2007 (3:53 am) · 43 replies

Does anyone know if this has been created. I was going to buy maya but the latest version is 8.5 and I want to make sure that there is an exporter for it before I go drop that kind of cash.

Did you try using the exporter for Maya 8 from this thread?

EDIT: Eeeek! Missed that you didn't already have Maya. I would assume that an exporter for 8.0 would work with 8.5. Maybe someone else would know.

I do know for certain that it works on Maya 8.0 (as I have to install it everytime I want to use it at school, damn Centurion hard disk protection program).

No as I havent purchased it yet so i cant try it.

Is there anyone out there that can verify if that converter works?

Maya 8.5 requires that the plugin be linked to the 8.5 updated libraries so you can't use the 8.0 plugin (at least on the Mac - I'd assume the same is true on Windows). We've built the Mac version and have created an installer package with Maya2DTS (including supporting script and icon files) for the following versions of Maya...

6.0 (PPC)
7.0 (PPC)
8.0 (PPC)
8.5 (Universal)

You can download it here...

Ben,
I am getting compile errors uner the 8.5 SDK, did you get the same?

Kind Regards,
Sean

Sean,

We had to do quite a bit of minor fixes to get the stock source to compile when we took on version 8. Going from 8 to 8.5 was fairly trivial. It's been a while since these changes were made so I don't quite recall the specifics. I'll take a look at it in the next few days and email you off list once I have.

Take care,

Ben

Ben,

Thanks - I got 7-8 to compile with little to no changes, but 8.5 is throwing a bunch of maya header errors.

did you just compile for Mac?

Kind Regards,
Sean

If anyone gets the 8.5 for windows working please let me know. Or at least instructions on how to do it.

Hey Ben,

Thanks for the info - I will look at it a bit more, if you can shoot me what you needed to do to resolve it..that would be wonderful.

Ben - did you guys have to do something with the

NO SCRIPT SUPPORT stuff - I found that is what is causing some of my issues...

Hi Sean,

No, I looked through the changes we had to make. They were mostly "... not defined in this scope" type errors so a few #define(s) and #include(s) eliminated most of the problems. Some linking errors went away when we went from GCC 3.3 to 4.0.

Though this might not be helpful at all, I'll give it a shot. We had to remove the header search path referencing the maya(version)sdk inside the Toque SDK as they only go up to 7 and the project was finding inappropriate versions of headers. Our search paths are...
.../engine/
and
.../Autodesk/maya8.5/devkit/include/

Sorry I couldn't be more helpful. Feel free to keep asking. I'm not sure how much help I'll be, but I'll try.

Take care,

Ben

Anyone get this to compile yet?

@James;

No, not currently. Sean is working away at getting it compiled, however he has encountered quite a few issues with it compiling.

So for now, if you have an old version of Maya, I would re-install that, and use a working exporter, until 8.5 is released, so you do not delay your project.

Take care.

This is bad for me. Our company doesn't believe in buying old software so they got the latest and greatest. (Go figure with a LARGE company). Of course now I guess i have to wait. Are there problems with both the windows and the mac build or just one?

Well your license for maya 8.5 will let you run any previous version so go load up the lime wire and get maya 7
I personally am still running 7 but I'm gonna be upgrading prolly next pay check!
