Lost Colony causing a stir in the MMOFPS community

Why are they taking pre orders for this game?

www.youtube.com/watch?v=4jDVUorcat0

That's December build with a Jan launch???? BOGGLE????

There are some heated treads going on in a couple other MMOFPS forums
and in the LC forums. LC staff banning cash paying customers (off there own forum) that are asking
questions about why does it look like Torque FPS demo etc.

It's Christmas and the last thing I want to do it post a negative thread. Apologies to LC folks.

But look.. I think it merits a heads up to the GG development community as it already bleeding
negative insider buzz about Torque shooter products in general.

@Andy - Why are you asking me for a refund of the kit? I don't work for Dream Games, and I wouldn't have anything to do with that. You can't buy the kit, take what you want for your own MMO and then request a refund.

Yet again, you haven't provided any proof outside of calling us idiots and liers.

Why am I arguing with a moron? I need to step back and ask myself: Who's the bigger moron, the person acting like an idiot, or the person arguing with the idiot?

Lol. I don't agree with Andy's methods, but this thread, and others like it have done nothing but make it more successful. Have to give props for that at least. Good marketing.

I felt it was my duty to bring this story out. What really got me going at first was people making fun of Torque. But after I explained torque and showed some links to real projects people are off the Torque sucks tune so mission accomplished.

The "7 liars of Planetside"... like Ghosts they ride in and attack.. leaving smouldering ruins of the enemy....

@Anthony

So you would rather silence the threads that ask hard questions about this game?

Without "this thread and others like it" there would be no story.

Some company comes in a 3 months later is about to SHIP a MMOFPS using Torque..

BUT the REAL game it TOP SECRET CLASSIFIED>. No your just playing the stripped Torque demo
for a test of our new DX10, multi cpu G17 classified Netcode (MMO pack??) THEN after you pay
$20 you can see the real game Jan 1st..

Do they smoke a lot of crack in Florida?

This is just getting more hilarious by the minute!
Also, Andy, you can't dismiss criticism as 'Bashing' your game and calling the critics clowns, You don't want to be Derek Smart.

Flame Wars!

I called it :)

I have to say, this whole thing is pretty unnerving unless Andy can prove (and now I think he must) that he has something legit and not just a hastily cobbled together "Demo" with barely altered content packs and "kits".

But I won't knock the game - I don't know anything about it for one thing because... there ain't any info - so I'll just say, I hope this is NOT a scam.

Good luck Andy and I really hope you're not jerking us around...

edit/insert: Just an aside - Andy, are you related in any way to Ed Wood?

Let's get a few facts straight:

1.) Lost Colony is not "my game". It is a game developed by Red Planet, LLC. I am employed at the company and hold a management title. My role with this game is very minimal but I have been involved with some project development. That is it.

2.) I personally do not ban anyone on the http://www.LostColonyGame.com website. Why am I being finger-pointed for that? I don't even have anything to do with that site, as I am involved with another site owned by the same company.

3.) As I stated earlier, there are many Torque/TSE/TGEA developers that are also involved with this project. Some will probably be posting a reply to this thread since they feel it's ridiculous, but good PR.

4.) GarageGames (this very same site) has helped the developers on many aspects of answering questions, helping with TSE bugs (with Milestone 4), and have communicated with both Ben and Brian on this project. This project "Lost Colony" can be tracked 14 months ago when Red Planet first began its development.

5.) Very few people have been banned from the Lost Colony website. Telling people that the moderators there ban just about anyone is another false accusation. The community has been helping with servers tests, client bugs, etc. Most of the community is participating.

And finally, Vashner, I think the masses here at Torque don't really feel that you're somekind of hero for, "I felt it was my duty to bring this story out." Instead, I think they are laughing at all the free PR you keep giving Red Planet on it's "Lost Colony" game.

@Andy-you really should tell the guys at Red Planet LLC. that people WANT to see the actual game or atleast screenies of it. Or is the website misleading?

By the way...I'm not laughing. I don't believe Randy set out to cause harm to "Lost Colony" just for giggles. I think he was genuine in his effort to let the community know something "might be" a little fishy.

1. Your the website owner and you came in here so your taking the heat.

2. I know your not a mod on your forum.. I am not a member of your forum nor plan on being one.

3. Yea I am sure you right let them post that this thread is ridiculous but good pr. How is getting a bad reputation with your target customer base good PR? I don't think it is. You might want this to all go away. One reason I got into it so much is because the deeper you look at this the deeper the stench.

4. GG helped you... ok so does that mean they endorse your product considering all our points presented?
Until I hear otherwise I am not going to buy this, that they support this.

5. That's a load dude.. you banned everyone that had a problem with your game or you lock there thread. OMG do you even look at your own thread. I suggest you take off read only before you get more embarassed when people like at that. It's obvious you don't value other peoples opinion. To make online games and run a forum you need to be able to take the heat from cash paying customers. Not abuse powers to silence them.

And finally dude, don't speak for the masses of GG. I don't think your qualified to speak for the community.

Vashner, I'm not going to argue with you over and over again. I work at Red Planet and part of my duty is server administration. It is not uncommon for companies to have "ownership names" mentioned by their server administrators, or the technical person involved that is in charge of the transition. I am not the owner of LostColonyGame.com.

Over and over? If you post something i'll reply. You posed some points and I responded to them. You didn't answer the questions. So there was no over and over.

This is about LC if your not the boss then fine. If you want to talk about it fine.. But it's about LC not you.

Like I said you where the webmaster so you got heat. Your name is on the public listing. I have a right to look up that listing. I have a right to post that listing.

I have a right to question your game project.

Edit add: Also you asked for a refund for the MMO kit. That implies YOU are large and in charge and it's YOUR license. You said you have been developing it with GG's personal assistance for over a year.

With a commercial license? Because you stripped out the GG logo.

ANSWER ALL THESE QUESTIONS and maybe you won't be getting hassled.

@Andy,

Take it from somebody that just discovered this thread.
Reading some of the posts here made me curious so I visited your web site. And so far I do agree with most of the remark here, all your nice screenshots come from other websites (3drt), Fps-environement pack, the video show nothing than a slightly modified fps demo from GG. You even mix screenshot from TSE and TGE (fps-environment pack is TGE with modified water block and has not same look as in TSE). So this with all the noise of the game starting 1st January 2007, is bound to make people suspicious.

If this is all legit, and I hope it is, then you guys made a mistake not to show more of the actual game. You have a game that is going live "soon" so you just need to take some screenshot from it. Simple and effective.

Otherwise you should not be surprised that indie who have a little more knowledge in game development than the average teenager that probably drool over you screenshot, are suspicious. Specially that you start taking cash from peoples.

I am bound to say that if people give you cash only for a forum and a few screenshots, they realy deserve it.

But prove me wrong, please !

I doubt they had much pre-orders, asking for a refund for the MMOKIT tells me someone is in need of cash :)

Anyway, january 1st is coming soon, guess we'll see then.

Scam? A scam is when you intend to steal money. I think these people just believe their own lies/dreams.

I could be wrong, but from what i see, these are just a bunch of kids. The office is just someones bedroom/garage/basement. And their game, is a dream, and maybe in 5-10 years, when they grow up, and learned from their mistakes, they will be able to create something.

[edit]!WARNING! I just checked out the order page! People, attention. The credit cards are not processed by a payment gateway. They are processing/storing your credit card info themselves!!! This means:
A) They can make payments in your name
B) They most likely don't have the security measures of the payment gateways. Meaning if they store your credit card info on a database on their server... and someone hacks it.... Or worse, if they don't have a database, and your credit card details are mailed to them...).
C)Your creditcard details are being posted to a page called thankyou.php. No security! Just a http transfer. Meaning, your credit card details are out in the open while being transferred.
Very, very, very unprofesional.

This game needs help. O.o

I agree with Ward; these guys are just guilty of being over-enthusiastic.

Quote:Just tell your credit card company you never gave them permission for this payment.

Although I agree with everything else you said Ward, I have to disagree, strongly about the above statement. Never tell a credit card company that you didnt' give permission for a payment that you did in fact give permission for. False fraud accusations can get you in nearly as much trouble as credit card fraud and are taken very seriously.

What you should do instead is inform your credit card company that you believe your info is in danger and explain about the site and how you feel uncomfortable that they have your info. You might even need to change your card number and get a new card (I know I would).

Judging from the looks of things and the fact that so much unprofessional and OBVIOUS things are wrong here, I'd say this isnt' a scam, but some kids who have bit off way more than they can chew.

@jonathon: You are right, I removed the credit card part from my post.
The reason I said this is because I'm having problems with this myself. Seems to be a sport in some countries. People buy digital products (games, software). Then file a false claim they never got the goods, or they didn't authorize. Most credit card companies just give a refund (and take it out of the sellers account).
When I contact those credit card companies about it all I get is:
"Well can you prove the customer did get the product he bought?"
"Well, its a download site... all I have are my log files, which clearly indicate this customer downloaded the software"
"sorry that's no proof"

But anyway, do not use that cc.php form, its NOT secure... you might as wel post your credit card details here lol.

@Andy Hodges

Quote:It's the holidays, which means, school is out, and the same 7 people from the Planetside forums that are lying, calling our game a scam, and promoting this "drama" have already come here and signed up under aliases pretending to be developers, or a Torque pros.

The difference between them and our company is, we have been developing Lost Colony for a over a year, and we're actually going to have a nice game for people to play and enjoy.

I made a post on the planetside forums.

None of my post has been disputed.

You claim that GG, 3drt, and the maker of the hover bike are "Developers" or "3ed party Developers", when in fact; all you did was buy the content pack.

You post (You meaning LC developers) post screen shots of the content packs, unaltered, and occasionally directly copied and pasted from the content sellers own site, and page.

Many people have contacted 3drt to ask if he indeed was working with you to alter the models for your game, the answer was a resounding NO, you only purchased the models. Period.

www.bbod.org/random/lostmoney.jpg
You are attempting to perpetuate that the models and content in your game were made by the developers of the game.

If i may Quote SoS from the LC forums.

Quote:To the fans of Lost Colony, we can guarantee you that all of our work is genuine, custom, and unique for Lost Colony. While we have hired 3rd party designers to help us with player models (one that actually sells models on his own website), we have not copied anything from any other game whatsoever. In fact, the player models that you've seen, the ones that have "LC" on the armor, are for Lost Colony.

In addition, our female models were also done by the same person that did our male player models. However, the female models were changed yesterday providing full armor than the previous screenshots. You have not seen these yet, but you will during the in-game "compatibility test". Why did the female player models change? Because we listened to your input and you didn't like how they looked. So we asked the designer to put full armor on them.

This is false. There is nothing wrong with using content packs. In fact, I am currently making one myself.

But let me make this clear, you cannot buy a content pack from a site and claim it as your own original work. It scares me to think that an independent developer would conduct themselves as Lost Colony group has done. You have already broken the EULA with each of the content packs you have purchased.

If you attempt this with one of my packs, I will not stand for it.

That group is intentionally misleading there community.

This is what I take issue with, not the state of your game, or the actions of your moderators. But the intentional misleading, and outright lying about others works.

Quote:signed up under aliases pretending to be developers, or a Torque pros.

Not to try to get in an ego war with you. But this little gem of a statement needs tome slappin down.

I have been using Torque for over 2 years. I have written 3 tutorials for TDN. I have helped Numinous people on this form for years. My join date (and my License purchase date) is
Member Since:	Jul 27, 2005
, i also have just had a Snapshot of the day posted, witch to date, shows more progress and understanding of torque than your current demo.

And all of my content was made and created by me, and in my prototype, all Resource makes were credited.

With all that said, I call shenanigans on your project.

You have a group of individuals who are hobbyists at best, with a demo using cobbled together content packs, using what I believe to be that MMOkit, are attempting to charge money for an under realized game, and attempting to take credit for others work. You Credit card system will take any number at all, in fact, it doesn't even need to be a number, and you are storing that info in a public space.

You making Torque look bad. Your making yourself look bad.

Your making false clams about the sources of art work.

And your trying to sucker two of my communities. Torque and planetside.

You, and your group could have a healthy, working project (Because many of us would love to work on a PS clone) if only you had the honor, and morals to be honest, and not try this childish attempt to mislead others into thinking this is an AAA endeavor and accepting money.

"sorry that's no proof"

I don't know which countries are saying this, but in the US, all you need is their IP address, card number, expiry date, and the 3 - 4 digit code on the back as proof of acceptance.

Just curious but since you guys where working so close with GG and the "devs" of the community. Why is there no mention of Lost Colony on GG's site besides these 2 inquiry threads (I didn't see the first one before posting this sorry).

Your about to launch the first MMO FPS ever made with GG engine technolgy and there is not a single peep of mention or a place to give feedback or a beta test invite.

Also who's license is being used and is it commerical? You need to restore the GG logo if not.

And please answer those questions, I don't want to hear any more of this NLP programming or whatever class you took on how to blow smoke.
