Seeking Help

I am seeking help from the community. I am putting together a set of tutorials for the Torque 1.5.0. I need help from the community on couple of items.

1. I need a working script to spawn a object when you shoot another object.
Example : I shoot a box three times, the box either explode or dissappear leaving a gun or another object in it place.

2. I need a working script to spawn an object when walking down a hallway or threw door. Perhaps a trigger.

I will be glad to include your name for the script you provide, I will not take credit for other people work. I can write the tutorial as long as there is good understanding how to use them.

I have been tring to write this myself but never seem to work. This is not for my game. I am putting some tutorials together for some people who want to build a simple game with Torque 1.5.0 and sat around on the weekend play it among themself. Some details about the people I am helping. I am not get paid for this, I am give my time free to them. They are children they range from 13 to 18 years old who dont have family of there own. I am part of the a community that is help them out. I have permission from them that when I am done with all stuff have put together will be release back to the Torque community. I am be honest up front the scripts you provide me with will be release to them. The plan is when I am done with all the tutorials is the people I am working with will buy each one a licene to Torque 1.5.0. There is about fourteen children. Thank you very much.

I could make one for you. Probably #2. I'm just wondering who is paying for the licenses?

There is a group of business men in my area that is paying for the licenses. I cant say who because I have a contract with them. It is my job to ensure everyone has a license before any code is give to them and put the game together and tutorials for them to work with. If there is any engine changes I will make them and compile for each children. They will not be allow to go in the source code. This only for fun. I should say this not done for money of any kind. They will not be allow to sale or release anything out side the group. It is more like buy christmas gifts for kids who dont have them to play with. This group of kids belong to the state and few people who has got together to try to make life a little fun for them. When I am done putting everything together I will be contacting GG before anything is give out to them to make sure I dont break any laws. The home where kids are stay will be keep the licenses, this not for them to take with them when they go out in the world unless they show interest to continue which at that time they will be rquire to purchase a license for themself but the group will give the money to purchase the license with.

I have done something similiar to this in Maryland about ten years ago with cermaic figures, the local shop donate the materials. I put the class together and taught them how to paint them. This is only for them to have something to do, learn how work together and have fun. I am been very carefully to keep everything separate because of the state laws from my work. I have got permission that any code or scripts that is develop will be release back to the Torque community.

I will say again this not done for money of any kind, so I cannot offer any money for the scripts that anyone donate to this project. I am not get paid to do this. I am give my time free to this. It is only for them to have fun with making a game. This will not be a class to teach them in and outs of Torque. We will be doing step at time, a very simple non violence game.

I do thank anyone for help with this. You will be putting a smile on child face that dont have anything, I mean parents, brother or sister. If you wondering why I am doing this for them. I have been working and give free time to projects like this for most of my adult life. I probably have done about 50 projects like this in about 6 states. How did I get start? I went in to military at the age 19 and two years later a project came up and they ask people. I gave my free time to it and found I enjoy doing it. So I have kept it up. I have many awards for doing this so anyone would like to see a screen shot of one them let me know. This is complete up front and honest this by no way to get you give me scripts for a personal game.

This is a very cool idea, for a lot of reasons.

One thing to consider might be educational licences for the children's home. You would need to contact Davey Jackson at GG, but it might be possible to get 10 to 15 student licenses at the discounted educational rate. And from what I understand, the kids would be allowed access to the source code. I'm guessing that the residents could work on a group project and possibly release the compiled version of it, include it in their 'portfolios' etc.

If I'm wrong on any of the details, hopefully Davey J. or someone else will correct me.

I can really envision the residents joining together to build their own small games, with each student taking on various tasks that suit their skills and interests.

There are a number of other low cost tools that could come in handy. If I recall correctly, you're already familiar with gameSpace and trueSpace. tS3.2 is now free for all uses. So that could be one modeling option. Also, Sharp Construct is a nice free/open source organic modeler. And there are a number of free image editors out there that do a great job.

Anyway sorry to ramble so much. I'm just really inspired by the idea.

No problem, I enjoy reading your thread. The one thing we have to do is stay with in state laws which they cannot make any money off this. Yes, truespace 3.2 is probably the modeling software we will be using but first go around they want keep it simple. So only thing they will be doing is put simple game together with some scripts. The person in charge want to make sure they enjoy it and dont get to heavy task in the beginning.

I have another friend who is doing models for us right now but anyone want to donate a model that they are not using just email to me. But remember everything will be release to Torque community after the first go around. So please make sure it is your model and there is readme with your license. I am not allow to use anything without a license, it can be simple license stating it your model and you give it free of charge without any guides lines. If you have certain guide lines for your model I will not use it because it get into whole alot other stuff. Now you can put in there that model can not be sole or use game they will be put up sale but remember everything will be release to the Torque Community so this will have impact on them to. Thanks to anyone who helps.
