Afx And Tgea (tse)?

by Thomas Phillips · in Torque Game Engine Advanced · 12/13/2006 (8:10 pm) · 115 replies

Has anyone here picked up AFX? Any idea how tightly coupled it is to TGE? Can anyone say where the integration points would be for TGEA (TSE)?

For those who live under a rock and don't know what I'm talking about, visit this page and take a look:

That sounds like great news :-)

The amount of deeper level bugs fixed by you and others really makes TGEA a far more usefull technology than it would have been without this community posted fixes.

@ Henry Garle & Sean T. Boyette -- We are on track to distribute the first release candidate to testers next week. Beyond that, the specific release date will depend on the results of testing and some general publishing logistics that are still being worked out.

In preparation for this release we've been internally testing the AFX 1.1 feature set on both TGEA and TGE and both engine versions are very consistent and appear to be stable.

Some new goodies coming in AFX 1.1 (other than TGEA compatibility) include:
- consistent particle system across both engines
- improved C++ mechanisms for adding custom user effects
- new PhysicalZone effects, including simple controlled flight
- preview version of SpellPack2 spell, Chill Kill
- new client datablock caching system for improved load times
- new load-time effects filtering GUI for faster effects prototyping (*)

* -- This means that you can isolate the loading to one or just a few effects that you are working on for very fast load times

Jeff,

I am not currently working on a project, but would love to be a participant - if possible for testing.
If this is an option, please shoot me an email!

I only wish I could buy this directly from YOU so that GG doesn't take half of your money for the sake of just "being".

Cheers and I will buy-in just after 2008 when dev time allows. ;)

Has anyone been able to get the upgrade pricing through the website?
I keep getting the full price.

From what mentioned in the other thread, the upgrade is disabled until the "prerequest TGEA" issue is solved so only owners of TGEA can buy the upgrade to minimize the extra work of refunding at GG

Marc is right...

There was a glitch in the GG purchasing system that was not properly checking for a TGEA ownership prerequisite. I think it's complicated for a product to require two prerequisites. In this case, AFX for TGE ownership *and* TGEA ownership.

The update purchasing options are currently unavailable until the correct prerequisite checking is functional. Sorry for the inconvenience.
