3d Modeler/Animator Needed

by Joe Ortega · in Jobs · 12/12/2006 (10:29 am) · 8 replies

I am looking for some one who can create 6 basic models for me and if possible about 12 different skins. If anyone is interested or wants more details leave a post here. This is for a basic game I'm creating.

It's usually good practise to leave a bit more information about what will be required in the initial request. :)

As requested more info:
6 different models
all human - a soilder, an archer, a cleric, a knight, a king and queen
Basic walking animation and action animation

The 12 skins amount to 2 different ones for each model.

What sort of specs are you requesting? Polycount, texture counts + sizes, etc. Also, what's the expected timeframe (time to start, duration of project)?

Also, is this a paid contract?

I apologize for not being an artist and therefore up on the lingo.

so maybe to explain to me
polycount
texture counts+sizes

As for timeframe models wise I'm saying about 2 mo.

This is not a paid contract since really what money do I have as student/just starting indie developer?

No apologies necessary, these are things we all learn over time. :)

Polycount refers to the number of polies you want the artist to try and stay within. This will basically be trying to strike a balance between performance and aesthetics.

Texture sizes are basically the size of the actual texture maps (512x512 pixels, for example), while counts refers to whether or not you'll be looking for multiple sheets (eg, one 512x512 for the head, 1024x1024 for the rest of the body). Also refers to any other maps, like specular, bump, etc.

For your last point, here's a bit of friendly advice. Typically for unpaid work, since the monetary motivation is not there, you'll need other hooks to entice artists to spend time working for you. For example, describe your project. What it's about, what makes it stand out, what sort of art style, that sort of thing.

Cheers. :)

Shouldn't good will towards men be motivation enough during this time of year.

My basic Idea is a chess game with a twist. Gone are the game of yore when one hit destoryed a chess piece. I like the idea of movie chess pieces in old fashioned style but have battle with each other. Hence the need for animated models. As for textures not sure yet just a base human with clothes model would work.

Good will doesn't pay the bills. ;)

This is sounding like BattleChess from back in the day. Could be fun to watch this come to life.

True enough, but if I had some money I'd be a doing a bit more ambitious a project.

So some time ago a battlechess game existed.

I swear I did not know of it. Should think of a name other then Battlechess 3D
