by Tyler · in General Discussion · 11/24/2006 (11:45 am) · 34 replies

Hello, I am a C++ programer, and I was looking through Garagegames.com. I
was wondering which one do I want.

See I want to make money off my game. So do I get the Indie or should I get
the commercial?

Also I don't get whats the difference between, a game Builder and a game
Engine?

Thanx,
~Tyler~

Frankly, you've come across as extremely ignorant. You're talking to people who have been programming most of their lives and do this professionally. Making a MMO is not an easy matter. It requires extremely skilled developers and a lot of art. Still, if you feel seriously about this then try. We already know the outcome of this. This happens all of the time in the forums.

You know what. If it takes like 42 days to make a MMORPG with DM Scripting, Than it can take me about a year or 2 to make a MMORPG with C++ mixed with Torque.

Personally i believe anything is possible. And i never was one to believe it took massive amounts of money to make a game. Sure it may take mass amounts of money to make a bleeding edge top of the line, push all the bounders production. But im sure no body here is expecting to do that with a small team of 'Indie' developers.
Momma alway said, 'If you dont dream big, ya might as well wake up.'
I have a feeling that any one of us here at GG forums were to take a big idea at the age of 14 and stick to it, by this stage in life not only would we be smarter for it, but also a bit richer. Richard Garriott creator of Ultima started with a big idea, of course he did start small and keep growing as his skills developed.
I respect most people here, but saying a person is ignorant for wanting to try something is a bad reflection. Ignorant is the repeated posting of questions before one seeks an answer out them selfs.

Caylo, I think he should pursue his dreams. However, I don't appreciate being called an idiot when I bring a touch of reality into his dreams. I am a 14 year old as well and have been programming for years. However, I try not to use it much to earn respect or excuse asking ridiculous questions. I find it insulting when someone claims to be able to make a MMORPG when they require sweat and blood from all of the developers working on it. The same goes with any game.

Tyler, I agree that this thread should be locked or deleted. I hope I haven't insulted in saying these comments, I merely wish to say it would be wiser to pursue a different idea.

Matt, are you 14 for real? I could never had guessed by your way of posting, kudos to you.

As for Tyler, calling someone a idiot is a good way not to get any help in the future around here.

This topic is hilarious. I haven't seen one of these in a while.

Seriously, though Tyler, you may actually want to check out RealmCrafter. It's an MMORPG creation tool that actually DOES allow for a team of one, or two or four to make a pretty complex MMORPG with a relatively small budget.

I'm a license owner and I've played with it quite a bit. It comes with tons of assets already inlcuded in the engine (ogres, elves, trolls, humans, etc.) and also tons of animals ...horses, cats, etc and all of the character and animals models are already skinned and have 5-6 pre built animations all ready to go.

The engine is fully scriptable, like Torque, or you can also drag and drop buildings, trees, landscapes, etc together to make an unlimited number of "zones" for your players to travel into, complete with waypoints for characters, 3d sound, triggers, day/night cycles, mountable animals (you can ride horses, etc), highly complex inventory, etc... it's very complex.

Heres why I'm never using RealmCrafter, Becuase it's Scripting and Scripting doesn't last long and its limited.

And when RealmCrafter stops, then you can't amke any of your own unless you know all the codings for the Engine and make it run again with more features.

Actually, they're releasing a "Pro" version soon where they give you all of the source code for the engine.

The latest version of Realm Crafter is being released next month and features DX9 shader support and a whole list of new featueres.
