Trog Killer Promo

For almost no reason I have made a promotional wallpaper for a game that I have started, called Trog Killer. It will come out next summer, and is a platform jumper. The basic premise will be that you are a ninja, who finds himself in a dark cave without any knowledge of who you are, where you're from or what your mission is. Through the single player campaign you will slowly develope a sense of what your mission is while fighting off horrendous monsters or trogdolytes, hence the name. You will be given flashbacks or your past, and hopefully there will be multiple endings depending on whether you unravel your lost memory or not.
The gameplay will be largely stealth. By that I mean planned actions, involving stealth and the sword. Charging into an unexplored area will result in almost certain death. The main weapons will be a katana and a tanto. The Japanese longsword and dagger respectively. Ranged weapons will include throwing stars and troggish (*the word troggish may or may not make it into the final realease*) bows, spears, and throwing axes. I want the game to be story and strategy driven. Certain RPG elements will be included. I'm playing with the idea of ki or "magic" and also the amount of statistical attributes (e.g. Str-46 Spd-36 ect) included in the game.
I pray that I finish this one, and am now in the planning stages of the entire game. I'm putting the enitire thing on paper in hope that I will finish the game to the last dotted "i" and crossed "t".

On the other hand, planning has its benefits as well. I think a balanced approach to both planning and improvisational developing is best.

Good luck, but sometimes not planning everything at the start can be an effective way to develop games as well. That may be heresy to managers, but when you can interactively develop your game like you can in torque game builder, you can realize that some things aren't going to work and some things really would work if you modified your design a bit. On the other hand, planning has its benefits as well. I think a balanced approach to both planning and improvisational developing is best.

Don't want to be picky, and it _is_ of course your game...but the traditional weapon of the Ninja was called the Ninja-To, a different sword from the Katana. Unlike the Katana, which had a curved blade, the Ninja-To had a straight blade.
Here are some pictures:

For a neat overview of that weapon (and some other ninja weapons) check out

...and scroll to the weapons and equipment section.
The katana was the traditional weapon of the Samurai.
Of course, make your game however you want to make your game. But if your ninja is going to use nontraditional weapons, then maybe there is a reason WHY he's doing it that would make for a great gameplay element!

Thanks for the heads up and the links, Jason! I was aware of the ninja-to through CEP for Neverwinter Nights, though I didn't realize that the katana was not part of a ninja's arsenal. I was planning on doing some research in order to present a somewhat good representation of a ninja. The links your provided are very helpful and provide a wonderful source of information on those pesky ninjas! Any time you feel like being a little more "picky" let me know! ;)Thanks again.
