Updates

OK I have read in several places that CVS is dead now and those words came from employees. Fine, no big deal I would say if they have an alternate method available.
I have read they are using SVN. Again fine, but since last I heard access to this was not available to the rest of us, I see a problem that I would like to hear some sort of official answer to. I realize that there are not going to be any more 'Free" updates to TGE. However, what about bug fixes that aren't really an update, but a fix?
Where will a SDK owner be able to go to see what fixes have been made, and be able to download them?
If you are saying that we will just keep downloading the full version over and over, seems a bit silly and extremely inefficient. So I would like to hear, I am sure others would like to hear it too. What is the official word on how this is going to progress?
Since this has been one of the strongest features of the Garage Games Community, the sharing of ideas, information, code fixes, and resources, it would seem a bit unfair for the information flow to be only in one direction.
By the way, I still think my choice to use this engine was the best I ever made, you folks have taught me so much.

Chip that is exactly my point. CVS used to have those fixes as well. I certainly understand if they want to charge for newer versions. However, I am interested in distribution of fixed code from versions that have already been released by those that have purchased them. My question here is are we as SDK owners going to have access to that system for bug fixes?

Maybe someone can chime in and correct me if I'm wrong.

I'm pretty sure you can get them from SVN. I know they dropped CVS in favor of SVN. I remember when the 1.5 release was approaching they mentioned people could download the 1.4.2 from SVN or wait for the installer update.Maybe someone can chime in and correct me if I'm wrong.

As far as I know there is not any access to SVN yet. Correct me if I am wrong and if I am indeed wrong please point me in the direction to set up access. I already have TortoiseSVN, I just don't know how to access the repository.

Nope. SVN access is restricted, if it does exist at all.

What about an official word on when it will be available, if ever?

Installers are the primary means of code deliery from this point forward. Additional, alternative methods for intermediate code/bug fix releases are being considered, but nothing is promised other than periodic new installers at this time.

I ask because not all bugs are fixed by the community. To be honest, my observation has been that many are fixed by the GG guys. So while there is the process of downloading installers each time, it would seem a bit inefficient to keep doing it when there is no updates.
I know you could always say that why don't you fix the bugs (good training, experience, ect.)? One, not every SDK owner is capable of doing that. Two, while I personally love a challenge, not everyone likes paying for a product that does not always work the way it should.
A simple notification section of when there is an intermediate code/bug fix release would be sufficient for my tastes.

Thank you Stephen. I guess the final question I would have in regards to this is, is there going to be someway that Garage Games will notify the rest of us when there is an intermediate code/bug fix release?I ask because not all bugs are fixed by the community. You can be assured that at a minimum a News release will be made when new installers are available. Other notification options may happen as well.
