Before I buy 3D Game Programming All in One 2nd Edition. What is the difference between 3D Game Programming All in One and 3D Game Programming All in One 2nd Edition. I already own 3D Game Programming All in One.

Morrie, I think Second Edition just means its a revision of the same book, like high school textbooks. maybe there's been edits and changes, but I think it's basically the same material.

It's actually a litttle more different than that. 2ond edition using tge1.4 where the first one used 1.3
Some of the tools have changed, and the code has been fixed. Aside from that, I think it's the same.

It is me or has this "Nth Edition" of computer books is now becoming the latest trend in publishing?

I don't mind spending a few dollars on a book but to fork out money every time Direct X, TGE, or whatever is being upgraded (every X months) is getting ridiculous.

I am not ranting on Torque in particular, just in general. To buy a book today only to have a second edition come out a year later with only minor changes and a couple of chapters on new functionality is sometimes hard on the budget.

It's a growing trend.

I know, I know..."Just don't buy the book! It's that simple..."

I won't go on....

Are there not Addendums created for those who bought the first editions?

That's an interesting idea, and I wonder if my publisher would go for it. Then I could create the 600-page addendum and sell it as a different volume, and keep on selling the original book as well, instead of letting it go out of print, as they are doing. The second edition is roughly 300 pages larger than the first--that's new stuff--and then there's about 300 pages of changed content scattered throughout the rest.

3D Game Programming All in One, Second Edition

TGE 1.4 replaces TGE 1.2. Chapter changes include Constructor replaces Quark and Gimp replaces Paint Shop Pro. Newer versions of several programs replace older versions. Etc.

Well, I guess I can't argue with the authour.

Can't wait 'til the third edition comes out! (Good first edition, BTW.)
