Saving mission files

Hi everyone.
Has anybody done some mess with the editor code?
I'm searching for a new mission-saving way, it's for my current project.

What I would need is a simple tutorial teaching how to manage menus or, alternatively, some suggestions about a good way to distinguish and categorize mission object using my own categoryes.
Would be better if is not bound to C++ code.
