Is the MMO Kit a scam?

by Andy Hodges · in Torque Game Engine · 11/03/2006 (12:35 pm) · 29 replies

Not sure if I'm the only one having this problem, but I'm beginning to think that the MMO Kit is a scam. I ordered it about a month ago, and what I got was an unfinished mocked-up character and items that didn't even work in inventory. GUI bugs, etc. There is also 1 built wall. Other than that, nothing.

So I contacted their live help and spoke with someone. They said they were in the middle of releasing a new version and that it will be completed with TGE 1.5.

So now that I waited a month, I got an email from them informing me that the new MMO Kit is available for 1.5. However, under my account summary on their website, it still only shows the "older" version and then I noticed a "one-time license fee". No other versions except for the old one. No 1.5, nothing.

I paid $100 for it, but now I can't even reach their support. My emails go unanswered and their "live help" is always stuck with "3 waiting in queue".

Andy,

You can grab the latest MMO Enhancement Kit using your e-mail and password at your account page:

http://www.mydreamrpg.com/orders/client_area.php

It is under the title "MMO Enhancement Kit (One Time Purchase)" then click the order, and then you can download the MMOKIT-1.5.zip. :)

Thanks,
- Tom.

Your tutorials in the wiki on mydreamrpg are awesome, and you have definately done something I wouldn't have expected by offering a refund.

I really do hope you guys can polish some of the core features up for 1.5.5+

I have not purchased the kit, but it looks promising and I have to say the support seems worth it alone.

I would like add here that I have just purchased my MMOkit in the last two weeks. After my first few attempts at getting anything to work, I went back to the live help on the main page of www.mydreamrpg.com and asked what I should do. I was pointed to the Java IRC client to ask questions of the devs.

Now, you may ask, what is the point to this? Well, As I have ZERO programming knowledge, and ZERO grapghics abilities I have foudn Torque to be very pretty to look at, but, I can do very little due to my own lack of Knowledge..

"My Dream team" spent hours helping me. First to get 1.4 up and running. (Do you know, you have to know how to use a compiler?) Then, after understanding I am just a guy, with a Dream, Xclonedx or Tom asked me to try 1.5 rc2. And explained it was a work in progress.

MMOKit 15. rc2 was simple to install, and relieved me of trying to figure out the WinCVS thing here at GG. I spent days trying to get WinCVS running. The Team at MyDream had me updating my kit, with a updated version of TGE 1.4.2 in 10 minutes. Then I started reading the tuts, in the forums. THIS GUY with NO experience at all, was able to add buildings, and follow each tut to see what had been done. (As 1.5 rc2 had the old tuts done.)

The Guys and gals and CLIENTS connected to the IRC dream server ahve alwasy been helpful, nice, funny and interested in what I have had questions or troubles with. I look forward to seeing how the kit grows, and how I grow with it. I feel the $100 price tag is so under priced I can't find the words to describe it. and to find devs online every day is priceless. (One dev was on when I logged in at 9:00am MST and when I logged out around 5:00 pm was still coding and talking to use in IRC. Then at 2:00 am in the morning, I could not sleep, so I logged in and the same guy said "Hello" as he was still working.)

In closing. I feel that Mydream has taken a great engine, come up with a SUPER FABULOUS idea and I am greatful that I am able to start seeing my dream come true. Dreamer's team, Tom, Dave,Mike,Ash all of them, have my thanks, and my respect for their dedication to making the MMOKIT. I look forward to bigger and GREATER things from the "Dream team" and I am proud to be able to say I am there.. watching, learning, and looking forward to the next upgrade,Kit, add-on.

Respectfully,

Clifford M. Brock

I gotta throw my hat in here for dream I am a complete newb to the TGE MMO mostly c++ text based mud game here :) but When I bought the kit and started I had not only the full support of Dreamgames but the community that is there.
Take today I had a problem setting up my dedicated server so started posting questions to the forums dreamer was replying faster then I could post them had me fixed up in no time. But yeah allot of the stuff isnt out in the open but is in the code you need to take time dig around and find all the goodies. I am still falling over new stuff I didnt notice but I amstill learning allso. I thinkg my favorite is merchants and player houseing I am a community nut.
So give them another shot gotta remember that in anything some times people get over looked misplaced blah blah you know but just gotta yell hey here I am and see if they can make it up to you accedints happen (like my spelling) its how we get threw them that counts. :)
