Yea, I read the whole thing assuming it was going to be confirmed!

I am not claming or saying anything. Just making a statement.

I don't think GarageGames will sell out to any larger corporations anytime soon. Perhaps sometime, but not now.
Edit: There's always Microsoft.

You did before you edited it Jackie. Now there's a question mark.I don't think GarageGames will sell out to any larger corporations anytime soon. Perhaps sometime, but not now.

I hope that Unity, LawMaker, and BeyondVirtual don't team up and buy out Conitec and TrueVision before attempting to stomp out the Torque competition. Or that BASIC companies merge to create RealPureDarkBlitz! Oh my, oh my! Whatever shall we do?

Do the "Big" players see money in the Indie community? I'm curious what others think :)
Interesting post Jackie :)

My question is: If it's true, what do you suppose it means?Do the "Big" players see money in the Indie community? I'm curious what others think :)

Hypothetically, of course, since it is all extremely vaporous conjecture.

What it means if it was real? My guess would mean that they like Eric's knowledge and couldn't convince him to move to their company for a regular upper-level salary, so purchasing his engine and having him continue to support for it and any pieces that merged with Unreal Next would be a reason. It doesn't have to be about "competition". It can also be about managing the pricing of a skillset. And taking advantage of the skillset would require picking up the engine while it is in its relative infancy in terms of userbase and the flack they would get would be minimal. Right now there are cancelled games that would get more flack than there are projects and developers using C4. Not that those licensees could not make a stink about it, but now would be an excellent time to make such a move, especially for a company with money and a strong technical desire who would have a difficult time convincing their investors that an employee is worth the price they would have to pay...but can convince that they tech and the employee are worth a one-time purchase with maintenance fees (future salary) is worth the effort.Hypothetically, of course, since it is all extremely vaporous conjecture.

Good point David. I never mentioned "competition" and it wasn't what I meant, but I know what you mean. It makes sense. A few million is peanuts comparatively speaking in the long term. Heck, in the short term given the numbers in the industry.

I know you didn't mention it, but it was the knee-jerk reaction in the topic in question as well as a common one whenever such things happen. People are often like "wow, we were a threat!" regardless of what the real reason was.
