Virus in TNL?

by Mike DuVall · in Torque Game Engine · 10/26/2006 (5:30 pm) · 7 replies

I just downloaded the TNL source code from here: http://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=106342&package_id=114583

I downloaded tnl-1.5.0-source.zip. When I unzipped it, Norton security said it had the "Movieland" virus in it.

Wow, that is an incredible assertion to make on a public forum. Are you absolutely sure?

I have tried it two more times with the same result. So a total of twice from the Seattle Washington mirror and once from the Kent, UK mirror. Whether it's a false positive or an actual virus I can't say, but Norton reports that there is a virus in the ZIP file.

Maybe I'm missing something, but the way I see it, TNL is a Garage Games product and has no reason to be on SourceForge in the first place. The TNL source code should be protected, not passed around on an open source website.

If someone really wants TNL, they should buy it and download it from the Garage Games website. Here's a link to the product page . . .

If I've misunderstood what's going on here, I apologize.

TNL is GPL'd and was put onto Sourceforge to allow wide-scale use by other open-source projects (as well as a full source implementation of TNL for closed-source engines to test to see if their dev-time equates out to an indie or commercial license should their engine not be GLP comaptible.
