if you really want someone to spend the effort to respond with useful advice you need to put a little more effort into asking useful questions.

vague generalized questions tend to get ignored or heckled. I am doing neither, I am trying to help you get an answer.

Ask a SPECIFIC question and someone might answer it.

Agreed, but in this case, we can at least try...

Tribes 2 and Torque use almost the exact same scripting language (there was at least one minor change to the syntax of datablock inheritance). The directory structure also changed.

Most Tribes 2 scripts depend on bits of T2 that are not present in Torque, so very few scripts would just work.

Jarrod, he asked a perfectly valid question in a nice manner... what? do u want him to ask you about ur mommas birthdate?

Yes tribes 2 scripts will compile in torque, but most probably some things wont work since some function dont exist in torque. But you can try to adapt them.

PD: Jarrod... why all your posts have at least one edit in them? I was told u tend to re-edit the posts to change ur text to fit another guys answer.... mmm... that's coward

now just who "told" you this?

I usually edit a post because of typos.

In this case I edited to highlight the fact that I was trying to help in BOLD because most people don't tend to read for COMPREHENSION but tend to partially read a post and then hack out a reply that has nothing to do with what they are replying to.

Not a single person on this board "knows" me period, so who ever "told" you this is a gossiping busy body.

I just got Torque on May 8, 2002, I am trying to understand the 300+ lines of code, I am trying to participate in a POSITIVE fashion.

I was only making a polite suggestion that more specific questions would be helpful.

From what I have seen almost every Tribes 2 script has references to objects that are NOT in Torque because they are part of the Tribes game.

some things like some of the admin stuff does not seem to use anything specific to Tribes 2.

So what does he want to know, specifically?

Is there a specfic functionally that a already written T2 script has that will work would be a better question.

Like does script XXX.cs work in Torque, here is what is is . ..

< cut and paste of script >

Is all I was suggesting.

Will "common" scripts work, definately maybe.

Will "tribes 2" scripts work, definately not.

I don't think anything any of these answers and I don't participate in pissing contests, name calling or general negative nancy finger pointing in real like and especially NOT on a forum where I don't know you and you don't know me and what not.

Maybe you have been having a bad day / week / month, but I really don't care, name call and accuse all you want, you have a generally poor tone to your message the last few days, I just ignore it and chalk it up the one of the above or cultural differences. I am from the SE US, we tend to be overly hospitable ( not as much with the more recent generations but I am old enough to know what it means to be a Southern Gentleman ), and we tend to give everyone the benefit of the doubt and treat them with respect and kindness until they prove otherwise. Calling someone you don't know and have never met based on some rumor from an unname source is NOT RESPECTFUL or KIND by any stretch of the imagination.

Go kick the dog, or something anything to get you in a better disposition, but posting blind accusations and slanderous comments about someone you have never met based on rumor from someone that has never met me will do nothing but alientate you from the community and fracture any kind of commardiare that is trying to be formed here.

This is the last I have to say about any specific person at that is a member of the GG forums. Most everyone has been helpful, friendly and polite. I don't know nearly what some of you do, but I do know more than someone that just bought the license 5 minutes ago. Not much more but enough where I can try and participate and be helpful. I don't party to flame wars, personal vendetta or any other petty childish behavior.

I am a professional and always try to post in a professional manner, if I can't I will not press the submit button. That is a hard dispiline to learn for some.

EXCEPT for topics about silly things like "Attack of the Clones Rules" or some other un-important non-sense that is recreational posts.

Only time will tell if this behavior is typical of you or you are just having a bad day(s), I hope you are just having a bad day(s), if so, it will not last, if not, have a nice, safe, productive day where ever you are!

I will be forgetting Torque and all of this when I press Submit as I am headed for a weekend of . . .

http://www.amasuperbike.com/2002-May/ratl02welive.htm and will be thinking of nothing but my R1, and praying that Gobert and Buckmaster do better for Yamaha this year form last!

(Sorry if this is a double-posting. My original posting seems to have not gone through.)

Hi Gerrard,

Don't let certain people get you down or make you think you're asking stupid/"useless" questions. You're not. People like that, well, I guess they talk the way they do because it makes them feel as if they're knowledgeable and important. (All it does, though, is show everyone that they're full of hot air.)

Keep on asking questions you need answers to. That is what these forums are for.

(this isn't really falling under this thread's topic, so if it's going to continue, perhaps we should take this to another topic)

Xavier,

Partially, but I didn't want to single him out because I've seen a few other people doing this question-bashing in other threads in the past also, and it's *really* inappropriate. When they bash people for the questions they ask here, they are ALSO bashing everyone else who has read the question and thought "hey, that's a question I was going to ask."

These are my rules of thumb (in no particular order) that I use for forums like these:
1) These forums are for people to learn about TGE and game development.

2) Question-bashing does not help people learn about TGE and game development.

3) If someone is asking a generalized question about something, the odds are pretty good that they want a generalized answer about it.

4) If someone posts a topic that is not appropriate (ie: relevant) to the forum it is posted in, then they should be politely told by someone in charge what forum it should be in.

As stated earlier I am not going to be party to people that troll for flame material and instatigate trouble.

See ... .plan file fiasco that got someone in trouble and see which person is starting trouble in the thread, you will NOT see my name there. This is the last I have to say on this, people will PROVE thru actions who they really are.

Read all my other posts and see how much bashing I do? None. Not counting the "attack of the clones" thread which was sarcasm, and directed at Lucas not a Member of these forums.

Ask a SPECIFIC question and someone might answer it.

Try reading my third rule-of-thumb, and this time try "reading for comprehension". It is not your place or anyone else's to decide whether a question someone like Gerrard asks is "useful". A question that isn't narrowed down to match the narrow scope of your knowledge about TGE is not "useless".

Quote:Read for COMPREHENSION I was not bashing I was suggesting in a polite manner that a more specific question in the future or more specific details might get more helpful responses.

It seems that everyone besides you in this topic couldn't help but comprehend that you went out of your way to spend the effort to call his question useless.

Do you really think anyone believes that you calling his question useless is a helpful, relevant and polite response by any stretch of the imagination?

If you cannot answer someone's question helpfully and politely, then please do not bother replying.
