Changing Brightness of Sections of Atlas?

Hey, is it possible to change the brightness of random square sections of atlas terrian? As in if I specify a square in any place on the terrain, could I make the section of terrain inside the square darker?

Hi, not at the moment as far as I can tell from this reply to another question I raised in the lighting thread.

You could however paint the texture brighter at that area.

Ok, thanks for the replys. Im not sure whether I could paint it because it is constantly changing.
