Total Noob with torque

by Alexander Brown · in Torque Game Engine · 10/14/2006 (1:05 pm) · 3 replies

Ive known about torque for awhile. Ive done textures for torque, ive made maps for torque, however now im wanting to take it a step further and do an entire game in torque. Im a novice in C++ and the torque script, as well as making models and attaching the animations to the models. So what am i making this nice thread about then is to ask if this book will give me a good enough understanding to start a FPS game in torque?

Will it give me enough knowledge so i could make the weapons, chracters, and scripts that are associated with such a game? or would i have to go right own to the basics (aka C++ for dummies) before i consider this book?

Thanks for any help :)

This book is a great starting point, but it only deals with scripting not c++. However from this book you could create an entire game. It cleared up a lot of confusion I had at the start. I am also a noob owned torque for 2 years ;) but was able to write a complete game for my kids about easteregg hunting.

This book takes you through all the steps to create a simple FPS and sets you up to create much more without specifically going into other genres such as RPGs or advanced FPS features such as swarming AI. The second book covers these things but if you're a total noob this book is DEFINITELY worth the price.
