What's in a name...

by Donald "Yadot" Harris · in General Discussion · 10/13/2006 (9:34 pm) · 11 replies

So now that things are moving and I am making some head way in adding people to the team and so on. I really wanted to solidify the company's name. Here are the two names that we have come up with:

Faultline Interactive

and

Finna Entertain - as in I am finna sit down... or I am finna goto bed. (its like the only slang word in my voc)

Neither were very popular in the chat room. So I figured I would try them both on a larger audience. Things I have to consider is marketing stratagies and branding which are both very important to me. If you could please give me some feed back on what you think about these names. Keep in mind internet address and Shirts logos and so on and so forth. Detailed feedback is much appreciated. "It sucks" does help a little but does not help me fix it. Thanks guys.

I admit have no idea what "Finna" actually means, but "Faultline" sounds like somethings going to go wrong, and fast.
So my vote's with Finna Entertain.

Faultline - has a tag line of Breaking new ground. That was our train of thought on that name. Thansk for your reply

"Finna" is somewhat of a slang term for "fixing to" (as in "about to"). Maybe it's a southern thing. I dunno.

Anyhow, since there is already a Faultline Studios, a Faultline Entertainment, and apparently a musical group with the name of Faultline, we were tossing around another name along the same lines:

Seismic Games

(Earth-shattering fun!)

Thoughts?

Any more help on this?

Just get a name you like, and run with it. The name just doesn't matter that much -- it's what you produce that matters.

My suggestion: "Handcrafted Games" (as in "hand-crafted by skilled artisans, these collectible plates will enhance the decor of any trailer they are displayed in ..." :-)

I'm going through the same thing as you, both for a game company and a music studio geared towards games and film. I understand Finna because people around me use that word. I would prefer Faultline because it sounds more professional (if a little boring and typical), but if it's already taken...

Finna is cool but you have to somehow explain to people what it means within a few seconds at the splash screen. Maybe have some country guy yell "Finna have some fun!" or something like that. But then again, what the hell is an Ubi (ubisoft)? They never explained that one as far as I know.

I say go with Finna unless you can think of something better, and good luck Reverend Harris :D

I like Finna a lot but Jason has been working some really nice Retro logos that I think would serve Siesmic Games pretty well. My main concern is with marketing these making sure I can send a message to the customer and to the industry. We want to make ground breaking games. As for Finna the message is entertainment. We want you have FUN and experience the games for all they are worth... story line music graphics all of the whole enchillada... I think spelled that wrong. The three name choices

Faultline interactive which I am really starting to shy away from. To long for url and clothing.
Siesmic Games
Finna Entertain

Thanks for the continued in put.

Seismic Games sounds cool. And I absolutely love the "Breaking New Ground" tag line.
