I love Lightwave, but it is not for everybody. The interface is one of the points of contension between modelers and animators. Like any 3D app, there will be lovers and haters. It's a great app that does everything that you need for games. But that doesn't mean it is the right app for you. You can request them to send you a demo CD on their site.

It is a polysoup modeling application (so DTS). The exporter is nice as well.

It wasn't made with Torque in mind, so it doesn't come down to "big objects or small objects". But in Torque terms, you can make both as long as you are conscious of how they will work in the final environment (take the FPS Environment pack released recently which includes all DTS objects where DIF's have traditionally been used).

But, as with all apps (and especially high-priced apps), you should try before you buy and make sure that it works best for you.

Try different software to see what you like the most. Download demos give them a test run. For me I used Gamespace 1.6, Truespace, MilkShape, Blender and 3ds Max. I have start using a new software call LightRay 3d. I like it and very good software. It is to learn how to use.

We have tested many softwaresolutions as we started a few weeks ago. Best in my opinion are AC3D and Milkshape (AC3D cannot export to DTS, Animation with MS), LightRay3D (I'm going to buy it, so I have only the Demo yet) and finaly QuArk to build maps.
