Quality Questions

Hi, I'm considering purchasing this engine. $100 bucks is childs play IF the engine is good enough for me. I'm an experienced Modeling in Lightwave and i'm used to a certain level of quality. I experimented with a few other engines and i wasn't satisfied with the quality. Now before i just hand over the $100,(i do need another 80 gig hard drive afterall), i want to know a bit more about the quality of the character rendering. I've seen a few examples but i couldn't quite tell how good the characters looked. What modes of shading are supported by the engine? I've dealt with Gouraud shading and it made me sick. Please tell me it supports smooth shading with specular and all the other goodies. ^_^

I don't understand. If you can afford to buy a $1,500.00 product, then why is $100.00 too much to spend to investigate another product, even if you end up not using it ?

What is it you don't like about Gouroud shading?

I think you are going to be hard pressed to find a game engine that does per-pixel shading. What is it you don't like about Gouroud shading?

Yeah, Lightwave cost me a bundle, but my company got it at a disount so it wasn't all that bad. I did decide to go with the engine after trying the tribes 2 demo. While I do have the money for lightwave, I don't have $100 to give to every potential engine, you know? I purchased the license late last night. And so far i'm pretty pleased with what I see. BTW i'm using Milkshapes import option for my models. Where can i find the Lightwave exporter?

Time to chime in here :o)
You can download the LightWave to DTS exporter for PC or Mac at my web site:
www.gnometech.com
Go to the products section and you'll find the exporter and some preliminary documentation. Animation is not supported in this version. However, I do have animation working in my code here, and once we figure out why we have a problem on the Mac, I'll release it.
If you have any questions, feel free to contact me through my profile.

Wow thanks Lightwave Dave! heheh Sounds like a super hero name. I'm glad someone went thru the trouble of making a lihtwave exporter. As, lightwave is my tool of choice ^_^.

Also, there is currenly no exporter for directly exporting Lightwave models into the game so you would either have to use a work around or use another program. 3DS Max and Milkshape currenly have exporters.
