Will GG do ANY advertisement?

Seeing as how GG will be publishing any games using the V12 engine, will you guys be advertising the game over the net (and perhaps magazines)? Or are we responsible for that ourselves?

What is this? You're getting a world class engine for only $100! Not only that but you also can do as many games as you want with it, AND get free updates. You have the nerve to demand stuff from GG after all they've done for us? Yes %50 of the game may be a lot, but for most of us it's the only deal worth our time and effort. These guys have done so much, and yet you still are looking for more. They left Dynamix to do this for us indie developers. (Please note, this is also in response to a few other posts by Chris)

Of course nobody is twisting your arm behind your back and telling you that you have to use the V12 engine. If you think you can create your own engine and get a better publishing deal you always have that option.

As far as this industry goes 50% royalties is not all that unreasonable, especially when the engine here is provided for $100. Do your research on the matter.Of course nobody is twisting your arm behind your back and telling you that you have to use the V12 engine. If you think you can create your own engine and get a better publishing deal you always have that option.

otherwise just start from scratch and build your oun engine,.. hay, then you can even, licence your engine to all the other wanna be game makers around here!

I'm tending to agree w/ Trevor on this... I think Chris is missing the point of having a full game engine for essentialy nothing.. if you would rather pay up front to one of the other engine vendors, by all means... tha deal here, seems to be good for a start up as it requires little cash up front... if you can make a game out of the engine, and IF people are willing to buy it,. you still have an opportunity to get some compensation.otherwise just start from scratch and build your oun engine,.. hay, then you can even, licence your engine to all the other wanna be game makers around here!

I'm not trying to sound anal.I don't really care too much about advertising since my first project is going to be a pretty small one (6 months development time tops) And I'm not asking that GG put posters up in EB and advertise in magazines.Internet banner ads will do just fine :).I just wanted to know how much GG will do. That's all.You all have a point but you keep forgetting that we don't have the luxury of choosing our publishers.

You're all missing the big point here.Since we are using the V12 engine, then we do not have the luxury of picking our publisher.Unless I'm mistaken,it's in the publisher's best interest to advertise the game. What's the point in making a game if no one is ever going to hear about it?Sure you get the engine for virtually nothing.Sure you get free updates. But what then? You worked 1 year on your game project.Who's going to know about it?You might as well forget making a game to begin with.I'm not trying to sound anal.I don't really care too much about advertising since my first project is going to be a pretty small one (6 months development time tops) And I'm not asking that GG put posters up in EB and advertise in magazines.Internet banner ads will do just fine :).I just wanted to know how much GG will do. It's the same principal as retail; if you can get the customer inside the store looking at game boxes, you have a hell of a lot better chance to get their money than if they see an ad in a magazine they're reading at home.
What's more important to me is that the publishing side of GG is easy to use. Customers should be able to easily browse or search titles to find and buy the games they want.

I'm interesting in hearing what GG plans to do for marketing, but I really doubt they plan to do much on an individual, per-game basis. It makes much more sense for GG to build the site's reputation as a place to get quality games, and draw potential customers to the site. Its a great deal if you don't have the money.
If you do, it isn't great, if you know you will suceed, because you end up paying more.
So yes, it it is a great deal, one of the best in the world for that matter, under the circumstances that you don't have the money.
I have done research. You are right, industry wise 50% is damn good, but, it is online sales, you generally sell less online, so the percentage means more, and there are usually fewer company's to go through, less of a profit chain, fewer middle men, and you generally make more.
It is a damn good deal, you pay $100, get all that, sure, it's great, I guess for that much money, the rate isn't bad.
I was missing the point, now I'm not.
I'm being undeniably agreeable tonight it seems...
I don't want to offend anyone.
I also posted that before I thought about it hard, of course they will advertise it, or they would be loosing money.
I should of deleted that post.
Once again... Sorry!

If you have money, license a better engine for a better deal...
Chris Helms
Only 50% of sales minus advertising would kill my company.
For 50% garagegames better do something worth while...
Since they are making 50% I guess that means they do want to advertise to make all the money they can right?
They are making money too, although they have multiple games of course, it should still be important to them.
This is a major issue of course, as advertising is so costly. It could eat up all your profit just trying to advertise it.
