Hi, we are looking for an artist to help with one of our side projects, an action game with strategy elements that we hope to have published on Xbox 360 Live Arcade next year.
We are doing this for fun and self-improvement, but we are also hoping to publish the game and get paid, as well as to make a game that we can truly call our own. We are working "on the side", about 1-3 days a week, and we expect the game to be completed within a year, if not sooner. You would NOT be getting paid, but you would get a proportional share of any money earned from the game, as well as equal billing in the credits. So if you aren't willing to take the risk of having all your 1-3 days a week of unpaid work come to nothing in the end, you're not the right person for us.
Right now, we have a GDD, a TDD, a budget, and a milestone document. We also have a very early playable and basic networking implemented, as well as some custom tools. Our plan is to create a polished prototype on PC, which we will submit to Microsoft along with our documentation and the XBLA submission form. We will also use the prototype to find a partnership with a larger 3rd party developer, who would provide funding for testing and Xbox 360 development/test kits.
What we need is an artist to help with the following tasks:
- Set the visual style for the game. We don't want a generic or totally realistic-looking game.
- Create high quality effects for explosions, etc. The eye candy in this game will be incredibly important, so you need to be good at this.
- Create some relatively simple, non-animating 3D models. Style is more important than lots of detail, so you don't need to be the best modeler ever, just competent and imaginative.
- Work with programmer to define tool interface and functionality
- Design menus and game HUD elements
- Assist with scheduling/time estimates for art
- Contribute to game design and any other areas of the project you may be interested in
About us:
I am a game designer with 6 years of experience in the industry. My background is in production and design, and I am reprising these roles for this project. I have worked as the lead designer on AAA console games and currently run a game consulting company. I enjoy working with other people, especially in small teams, and I am passionate about my work.
The programmer is one of the smartest guys I've ever met. He's been in the game industry about as long as I have, working on the same games I did, plus he's done technical contracting on some huge AAA games that EA and Activision are putting out this year. He's also got a great design sense and is very friendly, humble, and easy-going.
We are both in the SF Bay Area. It would be nice if you were, too, but not necessary. Contact me at the email in my profile if interested.
