3DS Max TGE plugin setup help
by Snowhill06 · in Torque Game Engine · 09/02/2006 (5:36 pm) · 6 replies
3 Days ago I just bought and downloaded the TGE. I also have 3DS MAX 8. I am wondering if anyone can find or write me a quick tutorial on how to set up the plugin. I am not sure what files I need to use in the SDK folder. There are a bunch of different files just in the 3DS max plugin alone. I been looking all over the tutorial files that came with it, and all over this site, and I cant find anything that will help me. I know how to insert models into the game engine just not the plugin into max. So I would like someone to please either show me where a good tutorial is or just tell me how to set up the plugin. It would be very much appreciate for some help.!!

Drop "max2dtsexport.dle" into your plugins folder inside of the 3ds Max 7 directory
Startup max
Go to File->Export and read through the optional formats for exporting you should see Torque Shape Exporter (DSQ), Torque Shape Exporter (DTS) and further on towards the bottom Torque Shape Exporter (TXT)
If you do then you installed the plugin correctly. Hooray. : |
Next, go to "utilities" and click the "More" button and in the list you'll see "DTS Exporter Utility", select it and press "OK"
viola, you should have known that if you're using max.

What possessed you to spend more than $3,000 on a program that you don't even know how to install plugins for?Drop "max2dtsexport.dle" into your plugins folder inside of the 3ds Max 7 directory

Thanks it works know. By the way it only costs me $500 because I am in college so that I get an educational discount.

Are there any catches to the license? Like no commercial use etc?

You're not allowed to use educational licenses for commercial use, no. And I believe they are time limited (2 years or something?) too.

Yup 2 year educational licence.

tdn.garagegames.com/wiki/DTS/Getting_Started for documentation
should be sufficient to get you started. The plugin is just a standard max plugin, drop the file into your plugins dir, restart max, and the dts exporter utility will show up in the utilities tab -> more button.
