Hmm, i'll add something

XNA is so cool because i've already got the GGLogo rendered in a mini game.

XNA is cool but Game Studio Express has too steep requirements for a casual game in my opinion.

@Mincetro

Yeah. No kidding. But that'll change soon. And you now get 360 for casual games, and that's a hell of a better market(less filled market). Reading the blogs, Microsoft is looking to XNA as a doorway to getting more casual games without handing out dev kits to everyone.

Ok, looks like XNA Beta needs a way to get meshes into the game. I think I'm going to use the mdx x mesh loader to load and grab the mesh data. Then i can put it into a format that XNA can use. I'll post that work when I'm done. Unless the XNA team puts out their temp .x to .swm file converter first.

You could just do a simple .X loader that dumps it into that SimpleMesh class they have. The SWM is very simple.

I'm looking over the map file format too. I know GG went with polysoup, but I'm curious about what can be done with bsp. how retro of me. :P but first... heightmap. that's what I want to implement tonight. Not quite ready to jump to .x file loading until I here word that XNA team's file convertor is/isn't going to be available. Someone from the XNA threads is looking into that.

This XNA thing sounds pretty sweet. Been trying out my luck with Game Studio Express but at first glance i was in a bit over my head and it wasn't as simple as i expected (but hey, maybe i expected waaaaay too much). Like Anton said : Westy, share the wealth man ! Give us a link or smth. Cheers.

Follow Westy's link to get a .x converter to use meshes with XNA.

Here's a great video by the XNA Team about using components. You will like. I promise. :)

Thanks for the .x file converter! :)

It might be cool to post it here: http://www.xnaspot.com/

They seem to have started a pretty cool XNA resource website with tutorials and samples.

Well, I'll post this here but I'm going to start a new thread if I don't find one on xna tutorials.
Even though XNA is not a GG product, I really think they should make an XNA category so all of us GG'ers can learn together. In the spirit of comunity ofcourse.
