Bioshock - Spiritual Sucessor to SS2

I just looked up Bioshock on google after a few months of leaving it in the dark, and it looks... well, good.
The screenshots look just amazing, especially for the Unreal 2 engine.
I was expecting it to be a survival fps, but it looks to have become more of a Horror-based game than SS2 was. If it follows in the footfalls of Looking Glass, then hopefully it'll be very nonlinear and not at all squad-based like the other shock games.
I'd like to know how other people felt about the game, I'm faithful that Irrational will produce a great game out of this but I know others will disagree.

The characters are awesome. The old school diving equipment influence is something Ive been thinking about for a while. Its cool to see how it actually looks in practice.

I think I saw a rumor somewhere about co-op play? That would be really sweet.

I'm looking forward to it. Loved SS2 - one of the scariest PC games I've played. I do hope that they get rid of the "disintigrating gun" concept though. Apparently in the future, guns break down and become unusable after about 20 shots ;)I think I saw a rumor somewhere about co-op play? That would be really sweet.

Co-op would be too great for words. And yeah, Brian, I agree. The ware on the guns was the one part of SS2 that I didn't like. I felt like a gun should always function at some base level, but if you "took care of it" youd get bonues in performance.Edit:spelling

Also if you specialized in using weaponry, then this became a non-issue once you had good repairing skills. Buffing your weapon was a seperate skill, and very effective as well. It's not really a standard FPS, it's an RPG that happens to have a FPS mechanism for gameplay. If your specialty is not using guns, then you won't be able to use them well.
I certainly hope they don't lose that and keep the variety of ways to play. Now certainly SS2 did have some balance issues, and a Marine specialty with a bit of hack skills made the game cake (mainly due to the special types of bullets), but it was especially cool for co-op since people could each have specialties then. I actually kind of worry that will be lost, since if I recall you'll be able to reconfigure your stats whenever you want at the nano-tech-dna-whatsit station things in the game. I guess it's not too bad though... it'll let you experiment easier, and find the best ways you are able to deal with situations.

The guns breaking down added strategy to the game! It made it so you couldn't just run around blasting anything, and had to think about conserving both your ammo and your gun. Especially early on you were just looking for working equipment to survive. It was exciting. It was an RPG? Wow, I totally didn't get that ;)
Yeah, I got pissed at the Marine path because of the gun/ammo issues, and went psy-ops. I felt like it was also pretty easy as you got near the end. I could run super fast and invisible all over the place. It felt cool though, they did a good job of getting you from nearly helpless in the beginning to being a badass in the end.
High hopes for Bioshock, yeah, it looks like they'll be trying out some new things which is great. I really dig the FPS/RPG combo, and I can't think of too many good ones that have been done other than SS2/Deus Ex.

I understand why they used the game mechanic with the guns, but it fails a pretty simple reality check. They could have just reduced the damage they do. The amount of ammo was really scarce anyway, they didn't need to make the guns break all the time on top of it.It was an RPG? Wow, I totally didn't get that ;)

Again though... that's why the game was totally awesome, since you could end up playing it so differently.

Pfft, ammo wasn't scarce. Hack the right vending machines and you had an almost unlimited supply. I had plenty of all 3 ammo types with a perfect condition max upgraded assault rifle constantly through the last third of the game. I could take down most anything in a few shots or less.Again though... that's why the game was totally awesome, since you could end up playing it so differently.
