Hi...
I gotta say i Love constructor... it's great.. but there are still several things i don't like and bugs that i'll mention when i can "explane" them better...
but heres a suggestion...
what about having a Align tool like in 3D Max.... where you can "check" a box and then you can create the object aligned to the wanted face\surface.... i hope you know what i mean...
heres a better explanation (note: this is just an illustration):
In Image A.1 The Align to face check box is turned on... and i move the mouse over the face\surface in wich i want to align the brush in wich i will be making...

And here in A.2 the object is created on and aligned to the desired face...

i'll mention some wierd bugs i have noticed ASAP...
Regards

Actually that is already in place. They're called Workplanes and you'll find them under the Display tab of the Tools Form or the Edit->Workplane menu.
What workplanes do is orient the display to match your alignment object, be that a brush face, a brush's texture or a brush itself. The aligned item then becomes the ground from which you may build. In fact if you choose a brush and enable Align to Brush's Origin (CTRL+HOME) you're now in the brush's local coordinate system and all tools will operate as such.
To perform your example above, you'd first select the wood textured face on the cube and choose either Align to Face or Align to Texture depending on how you want the world oriented. Then you can build your tube on top. You'd then Reset the workplane to go back to a normal world view.
Something else you can do with workplanes is save them with your scene. So you could have a '1st Floor', '2nd Floor' and '3rd Floor' workplane to jump your reference to the appropriate height.
You'll want to check out these beta release notes for more details on some of the newer features. Unfortunately I don't yet have documentation on workplane basics:
tdn.garagegames.com/wiki/Constructor/Beta2Changes#Custom_Workplane_Update
There's still a couple of more workplane related items that I want to finish off before release so you should see some more on these in the near future.
