Read more about the status of the terrain editor from www.garagegames.com/blogs/5030/11107... In the meantime try something like L3DT www.bundysoft.com/L3DT/ to edit large terrains...

Ok, thanks! I feel much better now. I looked through every folder I downloaded for an exe file. And when I had the TSE running I hit every key on the keyboard to try to start it. Cant start something that does not exist. Thanks!

I heard before that Atlas was compatible with Terragen. Has anyone confirmed this? Is it only the heightmaps or can you export textures as well? I checked the link for L3DT, but it looked rather low-tech. Which high-end tools work well with Atlus?

L3DT and Terragen both work, as does HTC and a few others.

I have used Terragen in some of my terrain production. As far as I know, it does not export the textures (although I'm no Terragen expert). It does do a decent job with getting the elevation data into a usable format.

You can export textures from Terragen by setting up an orthographic view.

Terragen and L3DT are both very suitable tools for Atlas. Pretty much as long as you have a raw file that is one integer greater than the power of 2s (257x257,513x513,etc..) you should be able to generate just fine. In fact, you can even use Google Earth for terrains.-Matt Vitelli

Hey, regarding using Google Earth for terrains, does that include the map textures?

I checked out the l3dt and I thought it looked great so I'm trying an evaluation of the professional version which I'll buy if it works well.
Andres@ In what way did you think L3DT was low-tech the example terrains looked amazing to me?
Shader engine looks real nice, I'm liking the prospect of having humungas terrains that look nice.
