Congrats on the T2 Mod!

by Eli McClanahan · in General Discussion · 04/29/2002 (6:55 pm) · 23 replies

There's probably a thread on this somewhere else, but I couldn't find it, so I figured I'd just say that I wish the core staff of GG good luck with the new Tribes 2 mod they plan on releasing. I heard about it from the T2 boards (don't own the game though) and all of the players seem very enthused about it.

I'm glad to see you guys are getting recognized for your value after the whole release debacle.

As far as I could tell, the mod will be based around the editor for the most part? In any case, good luck and congratulations. :)

It's not a mod.

The guys are doing the next tribes 2 patch.

Huh? What's goin on?

I thought T2 reached a final point release, and was going to make another game (Tribes Fast Attack) which was going to be made by some other company.

What's goin on, and where did you hear about this? (and no, Tribes 2 forum doesn't count...)

Nope... just checked Tribal War Marweas aka Alex posted the announcement that GG will be doing the "final" patch for T2.

Ok, no flames for this, please. I just want a yes or no answer from GG. Are you guys also under contract to release a Linux client/server patch?

Thanks.

Whoa...complete surprise, and a weird one too, since there has been no announcement here.

Some time ago I was asked in an interview if GarageGames would be working on Tribes2 again and at the time I had to give the dreaded "no comment" response. Just glad to have this out in the open at last. Obviously doing this update is a great fit for the expertise at GarageGames -- we are just glad to have been given the opportunity to handle these updates for the Tribes2 community and give them a little taste of what we have been doing with the Torque this last year and some. :)

Good news is we have already made great progress on the list of updates Sierra contracted us to address ...looking forward to beta patches in the near future. Unfortunately I will have to leave it to Marweas (Chris, T2 Producer) to address specific questions about the update and timelines.

We would have announced at the same time as Sierra but we found out about the release the same way you did. Our appologies.

OMG Rick, why do you ignore me? Why? If you can't comment on this issue, please just say so.

Wow... sounds like a win-win-win situation. :) Congrats and good luck.

My apologies Yacine, I was not ignoring you. Unfortunately we are not at liberty to discuss specifics of the update at this time. :( My best suggestion would be to stay tuned to GarageGames.com and Tribalwar.com for the latest public releases on the Tribes2 update.

Good to know GG will be getting some revenue until someone can finally get a game completed.

Ah. It's like a dagger in my heart. But I appreciate the answer Rick. I'm sure you'll keep us posted. It would be a shame if Linux client support was dropped. I'm guessing you guys will probably do Linux server support. I hope Sierra/Vivendi does get a Linux client done. At least for me (and I know that I'm just one customer), it would really raise the amount of respect I have for them.

I also would not upgrade my two T2 servers if I wouldn't be able to play on them.

Anyways, I appreciate the info Rick.

I want on the beta !! :p

On a more serious note I wish the GG staff good luck in hunting down all the problems. Hopefully the final patch will be worthy of the Tribes universe.

I was unsure of what this would be specifically. T2 has a lot of very popular mods, so how will the patch affect them? Hopefully it won't cause a disruption.

Tribes2, cool... Torque, cool... will I be playing Tribes2? probably not,.. will I be working with Torque? Hopefully...

Conclusion: It would be great if any work done here found it's way into making Torque better...

The Good News: Looks like GG is actually getting some good Blue's News traffic.

The Bad News: Looks like "Bitter Ex-Sierra Guy" is back.
