Video Game into Films/Movies
by Sventhors · in General Discussion · 08/17/2006 (9:43 am) · 28 replies
I can find more movies that have Hacker theme/plot then I can find Movies that have video game theme/plot or Video game that has gone into a Film. Also, there are tons more movies that came from comic books. I was getting mixed up. I did not list any. Sorry. However, are hackers films better then Video Game Films?
Any suggestion or to fill the list or comments?

Riddick was probably the best movie franchise to game, shame about the films being terrible. Butcher bay the game was outstanding :)

Double Dragon
Street Fighter
House of the Dead
Alone in the Dark
A couple of more movies which had prominent videogame stuff in them:
Joysticks (Porky's in an arcade)
Nightmares (Bishop of Battle story; w/Emilio Estevez)
Clockers (urbanity and videogame violence)
And something that has a geek retrofit:
Dungeonmaster
EDIT:
Parasite Eve (I forgot about this, too, though the game and movie were based off of the novel).

I've been looking for a film about some "live action RPG'ers" who play D&D in a biology building with radios and outrageous outfits, let out an ape that has been experimented on, and end up as monkey fodder. I cannot remember the name. It is not MALEORVS though they share the D&D reference.EDIT:

@David: You're making this up, right? I find it difficult to believe that a movie THAT bad was ever made, and escaped my notice. =)

Was Cloak & Dagger actually a game before the movie? As with several of you, I was a computer geek at the time and I don't remember that game actually existing before the movie.

@John
Yup. I actually found it. Shakma. It even has people I like in it. Of course, it sounds really terrible. So terrible that I had to pick it up.

I belive C&D was a movie before it was a game. But the game cart in the film had "the goods' which caused big problems in the life of little Davey.@John

The movie showed footage from the coin-op game and pretended it was an Atari 5200, prompting Atari addicts to ooh and ahh over the (at the time) impressive graphics. Atari was sold off before the home version was completed, though, and the project was scrapped.

@Cliff: Sort of! The movie revolved around a kid obsessed with a character in a video game. There was a Cloak and Dagger coin-op game under development when the movie was in theaters; IIRC, the working title of the game was "Agent X". The movie showed footage from the coin-op game and pretended it was an Atari 5200, prompting Atari addicts to ooh and ahh over the (at the time) impressive graphics. Atari was sold off before the home version was completed, though, and the project was scrapped.
