Okay, so PC Gaming is not necessarily a major focus, but it is the largest sci-fi/fantasy convention out there which covers a great many media including computer gaming. So, who else is gonna be there? If you're going to be around and want to meet up and maybe catch a sneak peak of My Bogle you can email me:

Did you make it to any of the game development panels? I went to a couple with stardock and one or two others. I thought overall that they were pretty interesting. For example you got to see what some of the larger companies were doing in a kinda behind the scenes way, and the stardock folks were pretty cool, but there really wasn't much that was geared towards indie development. It was a lot of "how do you get a job with a big studio" kinda stuff, which really doesn't pique my curiosity.

Ahh, you missed out on playing My Bogle! It got shown around the gaming area a bit. Did you make it to any of the game development panels? I went to a couple with stardock and one or two others. It was still interesting, even though not exactly what I was hoping.

The only game-related panel I went to was about artists breaking into the gaming genre. I didn't realize it would end up being mostly about breaking into the table-top RPG biz, though! It was still interesting, even though not exactly what I was hoping.

DragonCOn is great though, and the presence of 3D vendors like Renderosity and DAZ or eFrontier is growing. In the past there was only Hash with AnimationMaster, they still do an average of 2 shows a month. ComiCOn and DrawgonCOn has seen a bunch of others show up, which is good for the visitors there looking for 3D and other creative tools. I feel like I spearheaded that trend about 5-6 years ago when I pushed to exhibit at these shows while with Eovia. (Carrara, Amapi). For a year it was just me and Hash, then gradually Poser and DAZ and others showed up on and off. But Hash has it down to a science, they've perfected their presence at these shows, can't beat their pitch, and they get such preferential treatment now after being repeat exhibitors at these shows for so many years, they get the best booths, the most traffic. It's all about location and they've got it just right.
I didn't go to DragonCon this year, but in 2005 I went with Olaf from www.art-scene-international.com and also participated in the digital iron artist competition - which I won :-) - wow, it was fun, 40 minutes of preparation and 20 minutes of pure adrenaline. I still have some memories here:

DragonCon is great but not the largest. Comicon International in San Diego is the largest to my knowledge, as a single event it packs about the same visitors as all the Wizardworlds together. CHicago's WW is the largest of the WW shows with about 65,000 attendees if I recall, ComiCon has almost double that, around 105,000 I think this year. DragonCOn I seem to remember at 35,000 or so.DragonCOn is great though, and the presence of 3D vendors like Renderosity and DAZ or eFrontier is growing.
