High poly/low poly lesser demon [WIP
by Musashi · in Game Design and Creative Issues · 08/10/2006 (1:00 pm) · 12 replies
I've experimented with a bit of displacement mapping on the high poly version, but it isn't quite as good yet, the low poly version, well it isn't that low poly, but more mid poly.
I'm not happy with the displacement maps, and the model its self needs a lot of work, but once the hands and head are out of the way, I can get onto that, taking into account any suggestions made.
High poly version (Ambient occulsion render) -

Low poly

Polygon counts;
low poly - 4584
High poly - 73344
Referance image.

At the moment this is for fun, if I poly-up my female Link I think I can somehow fit it into my Zelda game.

Hey thanks, I just really got to work on that anatomy, but thanks to pointers on another forum I've got that covered. At the moment this is for fun, if I poly-up my female Link I think I can somehow fit it into my Zelda game.

On the last one, the higher-polyness actually makes the demon looker tamer for some reason. Try and fix the horns and teeth. Make them look scarier like the low-poly one.

I'm gonna try and work on the higher poly one later. But the base is finished, have a look.

Thanks for the comments, in that last update, I didn't do a higher poly version one, as I am very struck for time, I got Karate later, I need a shower and some food before I go and well I've already mentioned the holiday starting tomorrow. The good thing about the holiday, I'll have enough suggestions when I return to work on. ;)I'm gonna try and work on the higher poly one later. But the base is finished, have a look.

EDIT - Spelling

Nice work however your head needs to be a fair bit bigger and the neck needs to be a little bit smaller as it throws out the proportions of the entire body. Also I think the neck is jutting out a little too far as well. From your reference picture, the head does just out a fair way but the neck par itself almost ends part way through the shoulder. Also I don't think it is as curved as the one you have modeled which may be giving the next that too long look.EDIT - Spelling

Good work. Animating this sucker will be lots of work I bet. I agree with the other posts about the head size. I think it does need to be a bit bigger. Looks great otherwise.

Hey thanks, I'll work on proportions, I'm afraid my weakness is anatomy and proportions, but with the help I'm getting all over the place, that should soon change. Thanks. Thanks for all of the comments.

Think going to be my last update until after I have completed my work for a competition.

Wow! Really nice job! The only thing I would say is to try and do something with the fire/blood on the texture, it just looks a little out of place IMO. Other then that, great job!

Thanks, I might remove that and do my own version of the texture, not in relation to the referance image. However I'm going to use my time now to work on my competition model, meaning if I win I'll get bodypaint 3D which will be very useful for texturing this model.

Is this for any specific game, or just for fun?
