Wii Wii (I couldn't resist)

by Okashira · in General Discussion · 08/09/2006 (5:50 pm) · 50 replies

Alright, I have decided on the Wii. What changed my decision from the PS3 to the Wii? Here are some reasons-

1.The only worthwhile PS3 package is 699.99
2.Sony announced the PS3 games will range from $60 to $100 EACH!
3.The Red Steel(Wii) video.
4.The Wii's welcoming $250 pricetag
5.The Wii's welcoming $50 each First-Part Game pricetag(aobut $60 for third-party)
6.The Wii's graphics quality doesn't look as Gamecube-ish as I though when I got a glimpse of it watching G4's E3 coverage.
7.The Wii will be released in November, possibly way before the PS3.

So there ya go. I will be getting a Wii.

Quote:Remember when cd's first came out, thinking I'll stick to my tape player, those cd's and their players are just a scam to get me to re-buy all my music, although i dont think i bought a single cd that i had had that album on tape.. [etc]

Well - how about a coffee machine too? I like coffee when playing.

Oh! And while they are at it, why not add the TV tuner? And SAT box card slot! Hmmm - why not an XM and FM radio? That would be handy.

See where I'm getting at? Just because its possible, its not always sane!

Also your argument is taking something inferior and totally replacing it with something better.

What we are discussing is taking a _game_ console and putting in bunch of things/gadgets that are non-game related.

Like a PC? I've got tv, phone, word processing, banking, information, games, all at my fingers..

I though the debate was between ps3 and wii, i just say my vote is neither

If i were to get one I'd save for the PS3, when i buy new gagets, technology etc, i'm usually looking to add some new feature ie:bluray to my collection, rather than collect more of the same old stuf ie:just another game platform.

Taking something inferior and replacing it, I mean like if I were to have a ps2 or or game cube and want to get a wii or ps3, its kind of the same as upgrading from dvd to bluray or tape to cd... why get a new gaget to play games on if it doesnt sport some features you dont currently have. Game selection? Thats one of the biggest reasons I would get neither, I want them to develop PC games, not button mashing time/money exchangers. And Pc games are IMO better because they run on all (pending requirements) Pc's from all manufacturers.

This thread isnt exactly pertinant to the theme of this site, so I guess I'm not too concerend with being technical about putting my 2 bits in or if they make sense

Edit: and you can add a coffee maker to your pc ;)

@David , In school a buddy of mine and I used to joke about buying up warehouses full of the old NES 6502 processors for a few bucks and running them in parrallel to create the ultimate gaming platform... We MIGHT be able to get it to run torque under linux, we could probably get a truckload of radeon 9800's or geforce440's cheap..

Thomas: great analogy. People like simplicity. Unfortunately, they think this means everything in a single box. You know, I like my cell phone because it does one thing well -- it makes phone calls anywhere. That's simplicity. I don't want a cell phone that acts as an iPod and mini-computer and PDA. That'll mess me up.

Jeff: They've already primed the PC as a coffee maker. Push that little button on the front and the cup holder comes sliding out. And when it isn't holding your cup, you can place one of those shiny discs on it and it will play music. Imagine that, your PC is a personal stereo, too.

I'm like you: I prefer PC games. Then, I can tell the wife I'm balancing the checkbook (which is running in one window while I'm playing a game in the other).

I like your idea about the old processors. RIM did it with old 386 chips -- that's what ran the original blackberries. It could work.

Will I be buying a PS3? Uhhh No.

I am sticking to the Nintendo Wii. for a couple reasons, first and foremost, I think it is damn cool and innovative, to actually PLAY the games, instead of just mindless button mashing. Secondly, it gets my ass of the couch and moving, regardless if I look like a retard swatting air.

The PS3 is an amazing system, there is no point in saying it isn't, because thats just wrong. It is a power house, period. Does it warrant the price? Yes and No.

"YES" If you own a HDTV and want a Blu-Ray player, (since Sony's stand alone players are about $1000 alone) And you have a wad of cash to blow on a powerful system.
"NO" If you do not want to upgrade to Blu-Ray, because your happy with your DVD's as is. And the $699 price tag scares you ;)

PS3 will have some simply stunning games (1st party - Sony), However 3rd Party game developers, when producing games for multi platforms, will not add much to the PS3 versions, to make them better, for one main reason, it is not worth the money to do it. Sure they will add higher res textures, better sound, shizz like that, but realistically, any and mostly all 3rd party developers, will not take full advantage of the PS3 due to them wanting to cross platform (make more money). It is just not a smart business move, to spend more money to marginally increase a games quality, just for the PS3.

As I mentioned above, Sony's titles will be simply amazing, and so will exclusive 3rd party games, however do not expect 3rd party, cross platform games to be any better, than say, the 360's counterpart, because it won't be.

The Nintendo Wii on the other hand, has a fraction of the power of the 360 and PS3, but it's innovative gameplay and user interaction, makes it my system of choice. (well having Zelda and Metriod does help)

This is not a "My system is better than your system" rant. This is a "Choose a system that you will have a blast playing with" rant. It does not matter what other think. This is better than that, of mines faster than yours. It all boils down to what will give you the most pleasure, and in turn, that is YOUR system of choice.

Have fun

I am almost certain the Wii will come out #1 out of all three platforms. The price, the interactivity, and the very clear goal.

The last great consoles were the Playstation and the N64, moreso the N64, because they had classic games that brought friends together. The Wii.... Imaging a WWII game, throwing grenades, controlling tanks, it would be so interactive that you just couldn't resist.

I am not partial to any of the systems, I think they will all be great. The only problem with Sony is that they are trying to push a tech that is not even starting to get "big". With the money microsoft has, they have been forking over loads of cash to have developers (big time dev studios) port their games to 360, like GTA4 for example. In my opinion, PS3 wont have the one game that will require Blu-Ray that will cause consumers to have to get the PS3 to enjoy such a game.

Remember, it wasn't the dvd player manufacturers that got dvd players sold, it was one great movie. When the Matrix came out on DVD, dvd player sales jumped over 100%... When Halo 2 came out X-Box sales went through the roof, diddo for PS2 and the GTA franchise. Wii has an advantage because it has a unique gaming experience available, and at the price will appeal to more of the "gotta have it" people.

But that is just my opinion.

I waited in line for 24 hours at a Meijer for the Wii(yay! 4th in line!), and I am loving it. It was by far worth the money. Then again, I never really have been all that concerned with having super, high-res, hdtv graphics...

Sony is already poisoning the minds of gamers with their propaganda!

Die Sony, die! Wait, that would mean no PS2...nevermind.

NOTE - There is no proof or professional opinion that the interesting above news piece has anything to do with Sony! [cough]propaganda[/cough]

Got my Wii, love it :)
I get a shock every time I see someone say that the Wii hasn't/wont introduce new gameplay, more so when I read it on a board like this one. Must be some shocking game designers around if they can't think of new gameplay that can only be done with the Wii.
