Unbelieveable, and desireable... If possible, can I share my work with you so that (as a reference point) I can prepare music for games as well? I use FL5, Sonar 5, Sound Forge 8, and a whole bunch of support plugins. My area is reggae, calypso, and rap but I am open to cross over to orchestral.

    Hello Depusoir,

First of all I am glad you enjoyed my work.
I would gladly like to hear some of your best work.

In my opinion, it really doesn't matter which software you use, provided you feel comfortable with it and make great music. I think you can even make an excellent composition with free plugins (those that everyone think they are "low quality" because it is free or very cheap. Take a look at Ugo's Metallurgy, it is so cheap and yet soo powerful!).

Reggae, Calypso and rap are not the most requested music styles that today's video game developers / publishers look for but crossing over to orchestral from those styles is normally a bit hard. Well you can make some good stuff, but to take the most out of an orchestra you need to study (in my opinion, of course) composition and orchestration for several years.

I would recommend you to start learning how to harmonize correctly Bach Chorals. During my studies, I harmonized almost 300 Bach chorals. I would take the melody or bass line from a Bach choral and then make my own reharmonization, using all the rules from the Baroque period.
This gave me a really solid harmony background, then I moved to orchestration, and also practiced it a lot too.

There are some composers that never had any classical lesson, but sooner or later, they will face their limitations, I guess. As everything in life, there are exceptions, and I know one or two very good composers that never learned to read music in life. This gives them advantages, but also some disadvantages in other areas.

Always remember, getting powerful and great sounding libraries don't make you a great composer, only the musical content.

    Kind Regards,

    Pedro Camacho.

A friend of mine noted something, and maybe I wasn't very obvious here. Rap music is in fact used in games sometimes (reggae and calypso is rare but very usable too - check Monkey Island, it has some reggae in it) but the thing is that it is less used than other styles of music, and when big publishers want that style (rap) they usually pay a known group to have the rights to use some of its music.

    Hello,

I introduce myself, I work in the film industry (3D animation) in London.

I invite you to discover a soundtrack of Pedro Camacho.
This is a beautifull soundtrack made espacialy by the composer for my animated 3D short: Stilt Walkers.
He does a real good job on this, and very quickly, it was amazing. The quality is there, I'm not a professional of the film music, but this is surprising!

Im sorry I missed out on this thread until now.

Pedro, wow! Your talent is inspiring. I didn't think anyone really used trackers anymore. I used to play around alot with Scream Tracker and Impulse Tracker. The quality is amazing. I was expecting Fruity-Loops rather than an old-school tracker. Truly wonderful.

Just some word of advice, Your music is really badly unprotected...
It very well might have Copyright laws but try changing the player as people can just download your music stright from your site -.-"
