Torque Game Maker and Nintendo DS

by James Morgan · in General Discussion · 08/08/2006 (11:16 pm) · 2 replies

We all know that the DS is capable of many things (ie. Homebrew, Linux, etc.) but I was wondering if the 2d version of Torque Game Maker is able work on the DS. I read some information about the 2D engine and it said that with no royalties, you could make games for platform, so I wouldn't think that developing a game on a DS (or the discussion of it) would violate any terms on this board. If so, please feel free to tell me. I am not trying to step on any toes, or get in any trouble. I simply run a small (about 20 people) development group and was wondering if the torque 2D engine would be road that we could go down as far as developing for the DS.

Thank you for your help!

I doubt you could get TGM running on a DS at all, or without such significant changes that it would be of no value to port it. I'm not saying it is impossible, but just that you would end up spending more time porting TGM to the DS than it would take to write a DS game using the available tools. If you are serious about developing for the DS you probably want to look into using DevKitPro (a low-level api for homebrew development). You may also want to ask some of the guys over at the gbadev forum about DS development. Hope that helps,

I don't think the EULA does say that you can write games for consoles without further payment:
Quote:Licensee may not release Games intended for operation on Game Console Systems including the Microsoft XBox, Microsoft Xbox360, Sony Playstation 2, Sony Playstation 3, Sony PSP, Nintendo GameCube, Nintendo DS, Nintendo Wii or any successors or future console platforms without first obtaining a separate Torque Game Builder Console License from GarageGames.
