Come more guys give Stevie a break, it does not matter where he got the texture. If you like the pack then buy it. He work hard on this pack. There not many horse packs out there. He did different pack, for one I am glad to see a different pack. Give little life to game. I will be watching for thes farm livestock, jungle animals etc.

Peter... to you, they may not look motion captured, but i assure you they are. Simple as that. Its no misrepresentation at all, they are motion captured. To be fair, i see how the idle motion looks not realistc, and i would have to agree, so im going to source out for that for another motion, or perhaps do some work myself on it. Its not fair though to call me a liar, or to say i misrepresent. also im going to improove the texture mapping

Thanks

Steve

I love how the opening post was deleted, the one with the picture and link to the video.

I must admit Michael, normally i dont have a problem on these forums at all. Ok, im not saying that people should give me good praise all the time for my work, but it seems this thread has gone really stale, and i have lost nearly an hour of concentration on the project im doing now.. Its another late one for me.. 2.36 here in the uk

What is it with you at all.. Your looking at the negative on me all the time.

i will not comment again on this thread, as i really dont like the way the thread has gone at all. I need to stay positive on what im doing.

Thanks all.. and take it easy

Keep up good work Stevie. I was wondering why it went south to. I though they where been little to hard on you.

#1 reason (on my end at least) that it went south is that a texture was used, that was NOT made/photographed/processed by the seller of the pack. Even if Stevie lacks the ability to take photographs of a horse personally, it would have been far more respectable and less recognizable to purchase a couple of horse photographs from a stock photography website and then composite them for the skin.

Point being that 1/3rd of the pack (assuming model, textures, and animations each comprise 1/3 of it) is not the author's personal work. Then there's the incorrect animations and the total lack of TURNING ANIMATIONS. The model itself could pass for the result of at most 4 hours of work, it's not bad looking (but not great looking either). The major work appears to be getting the model, textures, and animations into formats for the multitude of respective games/rendering engines.

--------------------------------------------------------
To be constructive and not so malignant:
Advise to make the pack solid:

-Clean up the animation
-Add some animations that should have been there to begin with (turns to be specific)
-Create an original texture (you can use the existing uv maps, but please composite something instead of using some stock skin)

EDIT: Hell, email me the freaking texture with the UV's overlaying it and I'll do a skin for it with personally taken horse photos at no expense.

Nice work Stevie.. Keep putting out those nice packs as I own a couple of the other ones.

I think the horse pack looks good. I also think the some people here were alittle too hard on you.

I didn't want to get involved with this.. But I can't help it, I find this somewhat troubling..

I didn't get to see any video of the animations, however just looking at the picture on the site compared to the one at Turbo Squid, its quite obvious there could some foul work goin on.

The models are somewhat different, however the skins are clearly exactly the same.

Something else I found interesting. From that same company, they have a horse model for sale that looks quite a bit more similar...
www.turbosquid.com/FullPreview/Index.cfm/ID/223449/Action/FullPreview

That models is clearly a better horse model then the other one they are selling. Now, I'm not accusing anyone of anything, just looking at possibilites. And would it not be possible to have aquired that model, which is a pretty good horse model, skin it with the skin of the other model, which is a pretty good skin?

In the horse pack being sold, theres some rather ugly texture spots. Could those not easily have resulted from a skin that was formatted for a different model being slapped onto a new one?

As I said, I'm not accusing, I never do. Only mentioning possibilites.

You know what guys, to this point i wasnt going to say anymore, but i feel i have to defend myself here. I am really conerned over acusations being made, against the product i am selling. I am fed up of it, fed of the criticism, which hasnt been constructive, and fed up of people saying things that simply area not true.

Tell you what... i wasnt going to mention my texture source, but i will to shut you guys up

www.3d.sk/

Do a search on their texture list, for horses. You will find the one ive used.

Also, please contact Ashtara at the RPG kit, to confrim the horse is made by her

Oh and by the way, if the next acusation is going to be, am i using the texture without being a member, please email 3dsk, and ask whether sales@arteria-gaming.com is a member

I have been releasing content for the torque community for 12 months now, with never a problem.. and without the kind of damaging crit i have recieved here. Its just not on at all guys. Before you post, please make sure you have the correct information about me and my company and what im legally doing and what im not.

Also, look at all the content i make for the torque engine, and there are relatively few companies who make specialised content for torque - why do you seem to want to harm what we do? Its beyond me, totally beyond me.

I've followed his work for awhile, will be buying some pieces myself and the horse pack once my budget allows it, He is not from my experience a liar or deceptive, the places he sources are well used by everyone I know, I believe that the Ava pack skin came from 3d.sk. if im wrong my apology.

And so he bought a querky motion capture for the horse, why is your first assumption that he lied ? is the GG community really in that bad a state ?

I'm not chiming in on defense or offense in this matter, just pointing out things as I see them. Steve has shown his source and, after looking, that site has a real-life texture of the exact same looking horse that everyone's pointing at TurboSquid for.

Even if that horse didn't exist and Steve DID take it from TurboSquid, WHO CARES?! You can BUY things from TurboSquid to USE in your games, content packs, whatever. It's not like you can't resell things you purchase at TurboSquid (unless I'm misreading their terms somehow). So why the big stink?

If you dont' like it, don't buy it. If you like it, but think it has issues, POINT OUT the issues. If you have no intention of purchasing it or even giving constructive criticism, then go join a C++ programmer's mailing list where you'll have plenty of noobs to harass.

EDIT: Forgot to give my critique Steve... I think the animations are nowhere near quality IMHO. I would check your mocap source because they didn't supply you with very good mocap.

Ok first off it's MyDreamRPG.com although if everyone keeps misposting I may have to try and acquire the mydreamer addy :)

Secondly the horse is completely legit. The mesh was created by Ash, and licensed to Arteria who cleaned it up. Judging from the videos I would have to say that the mocap import /export process was buggy, but I can tell you these are NOT keyframes, take a look at the .dsqs if you don't believe me, there is too much data in there for it to be a keyframe sequence, thats pretty typical of a mocap sequence.

Thirdly, it's threads like this that make it hard for artists who want to sell their wares to aspiring indie game developers. Believe it or not 90% of this thread makes us as a community sound like a bunch of asses. And we wonder why artists want to charge an arm and a leg?

Anyways folks feel free to be critical of it on it's artistic merits, but don't accuse the artist of thievery especially when they are an established member of the community who has been selling here for a year or better. And in the future why not email the artist personally before you try to get folks riled up against them.

I personally have purchased everything Arteria sells, and I can tell you from experience that you cannot purchase art of his caliber at 10x the price.

Regards,
Dreamer

Aye I plan on buying this later today, and think that you did a great job putting this all together. For the price this is as I said a great deal. People complaining about this animation or that not being 100% perfect should perhaps look at buying a $300+ horse pack. For the price of this package just getting ANY animation and texture is a bonus IMHO.

Stevie - Thanks for taking the time and effort to put this all together, be assured that there are some of us who do appreciate it.

Geeze the horse mesh was made from the ground up by me in my own little studio. I gave it over to Arteria to rig with mocap animation since my own hand animations didn't do it justice. While my pack only offers the horse with low res textures, Arteria put on some higher res textures.

I'd have to agree with Dreamer in the fact that threads like this will make it hard for artists to do what they do. This is an INDIE community. Every piece of every artist's work is NOT going to be the best damn piece ever. Just like every line of code by every programmer here is not the best it could be at all times. I've seen a lot of what Arteria has done and have been very impressed with it.

So he got a horse with bad animations. You let him know that, he fixes it, all is good. Think about how he's going to feel when spending the next 80 hours working on his next pack he'll sell for $15 - $20. That $15 - $20 would start looking pretty low to me in that situation. Possibly to the point where I wouldn't even want to do it anymore and would simply move on.

Think before you post. Research before you flame. Apologize when you're proven wrong. Act like an adult.
