Scaling during export

I have heard about the box trick for Max when resetting vertex positions, but I want to see if it's possible to rescale the biped and character at the same time, because my character is in real scale. I want to scale it by a factor of 1.5 and still retain the biped and animations which already exist. How can this be done in Max. Or can the export (not the new beta) do it?

Or is it a case of "back to the drawing board"?

Look at the Rescale World Units utility.
