Need help converting MAX files to 3DS

Hello all,
I hope this is an ok place to post this.
I do not have 3DS Max but need to convert a Max file and all the included meshes into .3DS format (or LWO/OBJ/COB/anything that works). It's a character I bought on Turbosquid several months ago, but my existing conversion tool crashes out on me whenever I try it. All I need are the meshes for the character.
Thanks in advance

On the other hand, who cares. Help the guy out. I mean if the author cant support more than .max anyway and Aaron spent money on that..

TTO: Heh. No, its not okay if you read the license agreement. You can justify it like that morally perhaps, but it's still not legal. On the other hand, who cares. Help the guy out. I mean if the author cant support more than .max anyway and Aaron spent money on that..

The mesh creator/author is from Russia and unfortunately, he hasn't responded to any of my e-mails. All totalled, I've bought over $400 (US) worth of content from this modeler and have been able to use his other meshes without any problems. That may not seem like much to most people, but it is to me.
The thing is, the author actually can support other formats (as evidenced by other characters/objects in his portfolio, some of which, I have purchased). However, for some reason, MAX is the only option for the character I'm having trouble with.
By the way, here's a link to the character . . .

Yeah, she's a little heavy on the polygons, but I should be able to trim her down a bit.
As previously mentioned, my usual Max conversion app can't do anything with this particular model. I naively tried GMAX to see if it would help, but I should have known better. Polytrans and Deep Exploration look for a MAX installation before they will do any conversions, which seems kind of dumb.
At this point, I'm considering buying a 1 year student/faculty license of MAX just so I can convert this file. (btw, I do qualify for the license). It's just a shame to have to do that -- especially since I already own some decent 3D apps (gameSpace/XSI:Foundations). Of course, on the bright side, it will give me a chance to finally see what MAX has to offer.
Ok. I'm just rambling now. I'll stop.

you will find my email addy in my profile, send the file to me I will emai you back the OBJ ... after which I will delete the model from my harddrive.
If anyone has a problem *shrug* the guy who paid for the model is the only one who is using it.
