You use a boolean sutract, under the Compund Objects menu.
IIRC though, You're not allowed to use Gmax for Torque modelling.

Is that exporter limitation or just i cant use it because its for personal modeling? I hear that if i get the md3 exporter i can import into milkshape, and therefore export to dts

Rather than trying to find a way to subvert "the system" by going against the licensing scheme, why not use another modeling package with DTS support such as Blender or Milkshape? Blender is free and Milkshape is $15.

It used to be (and most likely still is). TurboSquid took over the support but Autodesk still owns the IP and determines the limits of its usage. They just do not have to support it anymore.

Note you can run any gMax plugin in 3DS Max 4.

I really like gmax. it is faster, WAY easier and advanced (Milkshape has you place vertex outlines, clicking each one in a certain direction until youre done......*yawn*), and i make a lot better models. Ill stick with gmax for turbosquid sales if i need extra money

Bryce,

I m using GMax as well ... I had my lawyer take a look at the EULA he said there is nothing in there to prevent you from using it make models for your own game.

Here is my workflow if your interested

Model in GMax
export to MD3
use Quick3d to convert to 3DS
Open in Max 8, rig and animate
export as DTS

Umm... Why'd you use Gmax if you have 3dsMax 8?

I just read through the EULA and it doesn't seem to have anything reatricting the use of any content created withn Gmax, just Gmax itself and redistribution or reverse-engineering anything in it (file formats, exporters).
Go Gmax!

I would say the workflow should be more like:

1)Model in GMax(and animate if you like)
2)Export to MD3
3)Import in Milkshape 3D
4)Export to DTS

I tried all the steps except the last one, and they work.

I use GMax for modeling purely for speed.

I do own a license of Max 8.0 but I find the features get in my way when modeling. Some people think I am a fool, but I will let history judge weather me with an open mind or them with a closed mind is the real fool.

I just found gMax has no renderer.
I know what your saying "Boo Hoo you can't make a slideshow game!" But this means that I can't bake any textures, lighting or effects. It has no rendering functions at all. From my experience so far it seems to be a very stripped down version of Max r4.2.
It's absolutly fine if you're updating from Milkshape or Blender, but I'm used to having a more flexible modelling system in my hands.

10X comes from the fact that I can now model at work (on the P3) ... I have a job where I am basically an insurance policy, if everything is working they dont care what I do. when somethings goes down I run and fix it, then resume do whatever I want ... kinda kicks ass.
