GID k: August 19th - 20th, Theme: Duct Tape

OK, so it's been a while since the last GID, so I figured I'd give everyone plenty of warning for a change.
GID k (yes, we're sticking with base62 GID numbering for a while) will be on August 19th to August 20th 2006, the theme will be Duct Tape, alternative theme is Underpants. Or you can combine the themes and make a game about Duct Tape Underpants ... the possibilities are endless!
Just to be clear, I know Matt mentioned in a Constructor IOTD that Constructor will be available for the next GID. That is part of the reason why I've put off the next GID for so long. Unless something changes in the next month, it's fairly likely that Constructor won't be available for this GID. So, don't expect it ;)
I'm sure you all know the drill by now, but drop by #gameinaday (irc.maxgaming.net) on the 19th/20th August to join in the fun. Also, don't forget to email your entries afterwards to fos2k4 at gmail.com. Include the names of the people that participated on your entry, the name of the game, a brief (couple of paragraphs) synopsis of the game and a link to your blog entry on it if you posted one. And yes, this includes you, John ;-)

Just an odd thought. Something for the IGDA Portland chapter to do somewhere in Portland. We just need an overnight space and the ability to set up computers and wifi.

Has anyone ever done Game in a Day live in-person with a big group of people divided up in teams or individuals sharing one space just to have a party and go at designing? It'd be remote as far as Game in a Day is concerned... but an in-person event for some...Just an odd thought. Something for the IGDA Portland chapter to do somewhere in Portland. There have been individual teams that have done that. Craig, Phil and I did a live GID for GID5. NinjaBee and assorted friends also get together in person when they take part. I think a couple of others do too.
As for a big group of people split into many teams, we tried to do that at IGC in 2004 but it didnt work out. Part of that problem was it was the wrong place to do it. We have been talking on and off for a while about having another attempt at a "big" live GID in the UK away from something like IGC. The biggest problem that we havent solved yet is finding somewhere to hold it that is cheap enough, has an internet connection and is easily accessible.
From what I know of past attempts, if there are few enough of you you can bundle into someone's house (someone you know and has volunteered such use of their house would be best ;)..) and hold it there. NinjaBee hold theirs in their office, which is another good option if you have it.
GIDing in person is a lot more fun then doing it remotely, so if you can get it set up I fully reccomend it.

I probably won't have time to do a full GID this time, but I'm willing to help out with 2D art if anyone is interested.Joe
