More Brainstorming - interactive elements to spice up a game

Hello Everyone,

You may have seen an earlier thread of mine a bit further down the page regarding 'suggested props in an evil wizard's lair'. Well I have a similar one that hopefully should prove useful as well:

I began a game a long time ago, (in a galaxy far away), which was totally mouse driven - but a very basic game. The player controlled 3-5 soldiers by left clicking on the ground to set a new point to move to and right clicking on targets to shoot them. Was fun at the time but the experience was fairly limited.

The game was set in a 'sci fi/futuristic' environment - lots of dank corridors and cryotubes full of alien nasties, heavy bulkheads and the like...

I was thinking that to improve the experience, and add diversity to the gameplay that a good way would be to include interactive items, also totally mouse driven, which the soldiers could interact with for various purposes. A few examples that I can think of are listed here:

Lights - on/off
Doors -locked/unlocked/open/close/sealed
Machinery -on/off - purposes ?unknown? as of yet
Sentry guns - active / inactive
Power - on/off/overload
Computer consoles - provide information,
Closed Circuit Television Monitors - enable viewing of other areas,
Extendable bridges
Airlocks
Airconditioning Systems
Self Destruct Buttons (I guess that really should be singular, you don't want too many of these lying around)
Garbage Compactor Devices

That is just a small handful of items that I thought of.

I'd be interested to hear other people's ideas as to what 'items'/'devices'/'interactive elements' could be present in such an environment - I'm sure others than myself could also find such a list an inspiration...

Thanks,

Matt,

I don't really have any suggestions for environment elements, but for the in-game interface controlling it all, you might want to check this out . . .

and this resource to make it happen in TSE . . .

The video linked in Tom's blog looks amazing. From what I heard, it will eventually be placed in the TSE head and hopefully TGE as well.

By the way, here's a looong discussion of the where all of this is coming from . . .

Hi Aaron - I've got no problem with the technical side of things - I'm using something other than Torque for this, but am just interested in a variety of ideas of gameplay elements as mentioned above.
