TGB Install Question

by Scott Johnson · in Torque Game Builder · 07/18/2006 (7:38 pm) · 6 replies

I find that I'm split between two computers quite often, my laptop and my desktop.

I have installed the TGB Indie license on my desktop, and that is where I've been doing my dev work.

However, I would really like to install it on my laptop too.

Is this OK to do? or would I need to purchase another license?

My apologies if this has been asked already.

Thanks.

You should be fine. The indie license is tied to you, not your computer.

I've had this question too and came to the conclusion that if you were ok to install in multiple machines how could GG enforce licensing?

I'd like to see a GG comment on this maybe...

Don't share your machines with anyone who is not a license owner.

The Indie license is per programmer not per machine. The license is what personally impressed me about GG before I was employed with them. At GG we aren't too paranoid with people breaking our licenses to allow our users the freedom we want them to have. It would be very easy to break license, in fact I'm sure it happens all the time, then again we have a lot of great community members that are trustworthy (like David Blake whose always been very helpful to community members and GG). I wouldn't say it's an honor system, since if we did know about something and it was obvious (such as people posting questions about the source yet we check and see they don't have a license, and yes this h appens more often than you would think) then we take action, such as banning, etc. Though in the end we aren't too paranoid about protecting our licenses as we are about protecting the usability we have four our customers and community :)

Thanks for the answer Matthew. So, if I'm understanding this correctly, it's ok for me to install TGB, or TGE on more than one machine (I have machines running OSX, Linux, and windows) as long as I'm the only one using the tools?

Correct :)
