Can an unlicensed programmer read the T2D Torquescript tutorials

by Jeffrey T. Spicer · in Torque Game Builder · 07/12/2006 (9:52 pm) · 5 replies

Let's face it. I stink at scripting. I want to get a programmer to do the scripting for me. But do they have to be licensed? Under Restrictions in the EULA:

"(d) Licensee may not distribute the source code or documentation to the engine in any manner, unless recipient also has a license to the Engine."

Does "documentation" include Torquescript tutorials?

That's talking about the actual TGB engine code (so the C++ side of things) rather than the scripting side of things. The rules on publically posting TGB script have changed since the release of the final version and a public demo.

However, access to TDN and so-on still require a license.

If you were going to ask someone to do the coding for you, I think it only right that they are licensed. Even an experienced programmer would need access to the docs so they can see how the language works.

I haven't asked anyone at GG so this is just my take, but for TGE the wording in the licenses is something like "one license per programmer". Going based on that, I would say that as long as there is only one person on your team working with TGB per TGB license, you should be ok. For example, if you were just doing art and didn't touch TGB at all. Now if someone else is programming/scripting and you are using the level builder or other features of TGB, I would assume you'd need a seperate license to be legit.

Everybody using TGB needs a license. The scriptor needs a license. The person just using the tools to make levels needs a license. Etc. That is simple and straight forward.

Jeff laid it out plain and simple. The only thing that has changed is now you can talk about script calls on the public forums, this was needed for the trial, so we don't leave trial users without a way to dicuss aspects of TGB. That is the only thing that has changed at all :)

Okay, thanks for the answers.
