Problems with terrain hills

by Alan McNair · in Torque Game Engine · 07/05/2006 (3:42 am) · 9 replies

Hi all,

I recently purchased the Torque SDK and ran my first tutorial, which was collecting objects around a few hills made by raising the terrain.

Earlier in the day this worked fine, and my character model was able to travel up and down the hills as normal.

However, when I reloaded the mission later in the day to edit it, everytime I went near a hill it wouldn't let me go up it, even in World Editing mode.

When I tried to go onto a piece of terrain that was raised, it simply forced my camera angle to go straight down and wouldn't allow me to control it, so I had to reload the mission.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance!

Alan

Though I am currently only working with the Torque demo, I had a similar problem. Try placing your character model's z value way above the terrain to let the physics fix itself. It worked for me.

Its the Spawn Marker - Raise it up!

I'm in the World Editor and am just using the right click of the mouse and tab button to look at the character model.

I can't seem to find any spawn marker settings anywhere.

Thanks in advance

Sorry its spawn point, and if you load up you .mis file you should see it.
As well if you hit f11 you should see all the worlds elements on the top right.\
Its in there.

Go into the World Inspector (F3), and look in the tree to the right side. You'll probably have to expand some branches to get to it. Eventually, you'll see the spawn point. When you select the item, you should see the coordinates in the window below it and you can adjust your Z value.

I just tried those settings and it is still giving me problems with the hills.

Anytime I go near a hill it just goes haywire! Although if I flatten the terrain where the hills used to be, it is fine!

Thanks anyway for trying Surge, if you can think of anything else it could be sure let me know.

Thanks

I guess I would check all your physics.
