Yet another licensing question...

I left Ben a message on this the other day, but I'm sure they're all taking some well deserved time off for the holidays.
Just wondered is anyone might be hanging around here that could answer a quick licensing question. I own TGB Pro Commercial, but I want to get my son a copy of of the Indie version. Over the last couple of years I've seen talk back and forth indicating the person that actually buys the software is the licensee. The question is, can I make the purchase for the software, give it to him, and let him be the licensee so he can have TDN access? I know this has been asked before, but I couldn't find an answer through search.
I'm sure Ben will give me an answer when they get back, but my son is anxious to jump into this. :) Thanks...

Thanks Philip, I can't either. I understand the fraud and piracy issues, but it makes things a little hard sometimes. He doesn't have a credit card, so I guess he sticks with Game Maker for now. Well, I'm having fun anyway...

It's just a matter of buying him a license. There's no problem with that. You don't have to purchase for yourself. If billing is the problem, I beleive GG accepts Paypal or something else.

Usually, it's the person that registers a piece of software (no matter who purchases) that holds license, but I believe it's different here. Just didn't want to pop the $100 till I was sure one way or another. I'm sure sometime after the holidays Ben will get back to my email. Thanks again...

Thanks Bruno. The credit card thing isn't a problem, except I'd be actually buying it. I just didn't want to make the purchase and end up owning another copy of TGB that I don't need and couldn't transfer. It seems I read somewhere last year that whoever makes the purchase is automatically the license holder. I want to make the purchase, but I want my son to be the actual license holder for that copy so he can have access to the TGB areas and TDN.Usually, it's the person that registers a piece of software (no matter who purchases) that holds license, but I believe it's different here. I'm curious what was the answer to this. Before the the EA on TGB expired I had my son log onto his account and I paided for his license (I believe), but now you've piqued my curiosity. Does my son have his own license or do I own two now?

I do know that if your son logs into his account and goes to his My Account, and his license shows up there, he is the license holder. If it doesn't, he isn't and it must be showing up in yours. I also know that standard licenses are not normally transferable.
As unclear as all that was I hope it helps...

Alan, I'm not sure how much I'm supposed to say about things here, but basically your son would be equivalent to a part of your company (for example's sake) and you would be the purchasing agent. You would be allowed to purchase for him, and then on request GG would be able to assign that license to your son's account. In my case, I actually have a company and both my sons are part of the company. Clear as mud? Again, I'm not sure what I can and can't say because I'm not sure what GG's standard policies are.I do know that if your son logs into his account and goes to his My Account, and his license shows up there, he is the license holder. Yes pretty clear, and when he logs onto his "My Account" he is listed as an SDK license holder, so it's probably all good. I'll drop Benjamin B. an email just to confirm this.

Yes, that would mean you're all set, Alan. Glad you understood. And thanks for the help and answers, Ben...

You could probably get him to create an account here at GG, and then use your credit card to buy the software so that although you're paying, he's the licensee. Can't think of any other way really.
