Help me choose which engine...

I have been working on designing a game now for over a year, and have finally reached the point where I am ready to jump in and start programming. However, I am trying to decide if I should use GameMaker or T2D.

I have downloaded the free version of game maker, and the 30 day trial of TGB. Could someone please explain to me what some of the differences are between these two engines. Some of the differences of course I have already discovered on my own, but I want to know as much as possible before I make my decision. So far I have yet to discover any one clear reason to choose one over the other, besides price.

Also, I am sure this is a stupid newby question, but is there any way I can set my game to launch in full screen? Such as set the screen resolution to 800 by 600 and then run at that resolution? I feel it provides a much more immersive gaming experience when the game fills the screen.

I would say go with the TGB. Gamemaker is more of a learning tool created by the author for his class. It's a nice program to tinker with, but it's not as flexible or as powerful as the TGB is. One of the points in this is that I find the level designer in GM to be lacking. If you want a large level, you have to figure out how big it will be before hand. TGB on the other hand gives you an almost endless workspace that you can construct large levels in. Not sure how big, but it seems to be extreamly huge.
Play around with both if you like, but I think in the end, the TGB will stand out more.

Ditto what Stephen said. Also, the community here is probably the best around. Very helpful! That alone is a big plus.

After playing around with the 30 day trial of TGB and the free version of Game Maker I think I'm going to choose Torque for the following reasons-

-Torque is seeming fairly easy to learn, much easier than I expected.

-Torque seems much more stable then Game Maker.

-Although both engines have large communities behind them, the Torque community seems more mature and knowledgable.

-When I posed my question to the Game Maker community, some members suggested that Torque would be the better choice, where no one here suggested I use Game Maker over Torque.

-Garage Games seems to be based in Eugene Oregon... the same city in which I live and work, so if by choosing Torque my game engine money is staying local, instead of going overseas.

Torque is just a lot more powerful. Much better particles, physics etc. Game maker is more "drap and drop", although TGB is very easy to use now as well. I have used both and find GM much more limiting.

We can't make the decision for you but you forgot the most important part of the work :
What kind of game do you whant to achieve ?

I think you didn't ask the good questions...
A good game design isn't easy at all and require a lot of work.
It really depend on what you whant to achieve.
When i'm saying that i'm not only thinking about GM vs TGB but also to all the others existing solutions.
Think about it.
