I never figured you for the hard core do it yourself hacker type of guy. I always thought you liked the easy to install Mandrake stuff. I gotta say, Mandrake is great; it was easier to install on my laptop than any other distro I've tried so far, but it tries to hide to some extent the nitty gritty stuff.
Did you have any problems getting gentoo up and running. I've been reading a few reviews and each one mentions a few bugs which might cause problems.

That's so funny Tim (Spock). I have been dwelling on whether I should install gentoo on my main machine for the past month. My problem is that my debian machine is quite stable and is my main machine.I never figured you for the hard core do it yourself hacker type of guy. i didnt have any real trouble. They have great docs and there is an official irc chatroom you can get help in. Gentoo was a lot easier to install than I thought it would be. Probably the most painful thing I did was keep forgetting modules, I had to recompile the kernel 4 times. i did run into a hitch on my usb mouse...couldn't figure it out on my own so i just stuck the adapter on it and plugged it into my ps/2 port (which is what the docs cover installing) and everything went smooth then. I learned a lot of stuff about linux installing gentoo. Stuff I never would have bothered learning in Mandrake. The package manager has to be the best feature, its based off BSd ports and contains extra stuff.-Tim aka Spock

I might give Gentoo a try, sounds interesting. Although I must admit I prefer the spoonfed linux distributions. :)

It feels like Gentoo is like LFS but just easier to setup and to keep up to date. I'm looking forward to it.

I take back all my stable comments about my debian box. There have been just too many little things which are irratating me. Konq just disappeared on me earlier today. As soon as exams are over, this machine is going gentoo. No point in stalling forever. It feels like Gentoo is like LFS but just easier to setup and to keep up to date. I'm looking forward to it.

I guess a little about myself and current home workstation would probably be a good idea. I am currently running a turbolinux 6 workstation box as a natting firewall, and a mandrake 8 playbox. My gaming box is a dual p3-1000 with 512 megs of ram, sblive 5.1, elsa gladiac geforce2 mx 200, with generic hard drive and dvd. I am currently using the 2880 release from nvidia, and 2.4.8-31smp kernel. My routing machine has an uptime of something silly like 2.5 years, so its quite dated as far as the kernel goes. As I am currently unemployed, I have been working hard to pick up porting contracts for several games and game utilities on the market. I must say, what you guys have done with RealmWars is very nice, and a good place to start from. The engine runs perfectly smoothly on my machine, with no lag or other issues. I have seen some issues with the environment turning triangular when viewed at a distance, and am unsure wether this is due to a limitation of the engine currently, or an error with the 2880 rendering calls. EG: mountains turn into stacked triangles at a large distance.

If you're not already running in 24 bit mode, you might try doing that to see if it clears up the artifacts.

Hehe Tim got me into gentoo =D. I love gentoo even tho i'm relatively new to linux, however It was good that I got good with recompiling hte kernel and learned about linux with mandrake/RH 7.2 before gentoo. Just be prepared if you get the 16mb iso (That's the way to go imho =D) the installation will take a LOT of time. You compile everything so.... heh KDE and all it's dependencies took me 5 hours (that included X) so be prepared with something to do in the menatime. however It's quite good once your done..--KallDrexx

Also, I don't understand what you mean by "generic type levels".

How do I make a screenie of the game? And what I had meant was, were you looking for level designers for the game.

As far as level editing, GG is a community project so yes you can make levels for it.

Use CTRL-p in game to make a screenshot. It will be stored in your ~/.garagegames/realmwars directory. As far as level editing, GG is a community project so yes you can make levels for it.

Cool, Ill get a screenie in a few. How does one go about designing a level? I assume you use the mission editor, but Im not entirely sure. Any help here would be great. You can email me at eclark@beefeater.darkorb.net. Muchas gracias.

Does this mean there is an official build coming soon?
On a Side note: I installed Gentoo last night, and a lot of today :) its a pretty nice setup...everything is the newest available. They have good docs so it wasn't that tough to setup..although its probably not for the people who are real newbies. For those that don't know, Gentoo is a linux distro that you compile everything for your specific machine so you get the best speed out of it...its a heck of a lot faster than Mandrake. If you don't want to put some time into your distro and craft it then you might want to stay away from this distro as it takes a while to install it and programs since you compile everything.
