3D Package for Torque

by Greg · in Artist Corner · 06/26/2006 (12:47 pm) · 17 replies

I use both Maya and 3dsMax, which is the better program to use for Torque models and rigging/animation?

Thanks for any info!

Both applications are pretty versatile and well supported when it comes to creating DTS objects for use in Torque based games. As such choose the application that you are most comfortable with using, one honestly isnt much better than the other overall.

Awesome! Thanks for the info! Didn't know if one was limited as to the modeling, and especially the rigging/animation, one more than the other. I guess not. :)

Thanks again,

You can also use blender, milkshape and Lightwave, maybe a few more like Shaper.

I'm moving into Lightwave as well. Good to see a lot of users here to help each other out.

I used to be a Lightwave user myself, and it was OK... but I really gotta say, it can't touch 3D Studio Max unless they've duplicated the Max non-destructive modifier stack since the last time I used it. Unless this is the case, I really have to disagree with Roland when he says "just as powerfull [sic] as Max". Sorry, but I've had intimate professional experience with both, and this is just not true.

I use Hexagon2/Silo3d and the blender.. I'd like to user 3DMAX but unfortunately can't afford the beast.. Lightwave looks fairly promising.. but I'm getting pretty used to Hexagon2 and Silo3d.

I animate using Pacemaker and Blender..

Everyone has there own personal preference as to what 3d package they like using. mine just happens to be Lightave. Been using it since Lightwave 6.0 and never looked back.

Max is a powerful package. But i find Lightwave way easier to use.

Other people findit the other way around. And that is thier choice.

I currently have both, but don't use max all that much.

Please do not misunderstand, I am in no way attacking your choice of modeller... I was merely contesting your statement that it is as powerful as max. Lightwave is still a very good package, and would be my second choice for modelling tool.

I love lightwave.. also maya.. but I dont know how to use it.. and is way expensive...

Besides.. I use a MAC :D so 3D max is out of the question....
