Filenames with Underscores

I was following Nigel Symes texture-tutorial and at first, my textures wouldn't load, but then I renamed my files from a "rpc_male1_001.*" to a simple word "z.*" and textures loaded correctly.

Anyone else seen this happen? Does the exporter not support underscores?
